Why the loading slow down with patch?
I have been playing and enjoying this game since like beta 34 with hardly any problems. Beta 37 is excellent too. But when I add the patch file and boot up it takes forever to load. I mean 1 percentage point at a time. It was lightening fast before the patch. So what gives? Thanks for any help!

Which patch did you load?
You should not "extract" the teaa files. If you extract your game will be invalidated and the md5's per file gets calculated and things are a mess.
However the really long loading times comes from a lua error typically.
Check the log to see if there are a long loop of lua errors.

Are you using multiple addons? If so, which ones?

I have no addons. I simply downloaded the latest patch and per instruction unzipped into the specified directory. Did I do something wrong?

What patch are you talking about? The only things that are officially available for downloads are the betas, and those should be unzipped in separate directories to avoid any potential clashes. There are also addons with an extension ".teaa" that you place in the game/addons subdirectory, and using multiples of these in b37 frequently caused "invisible" errors during loading. You can check for those by opening the "te4.log" file (or something similar to that) created in the ToME directory. If you are not using addons, have extracted b37 into a separate directory and are STILL experiencing problems then let us know your OS. Cheers.Stingm wrote:I have no addons. When I said patch I meant the bug fix addon. Sorry for the confusion. I downloaded the bugfix addon and unzipped and installed per instruction. I am running xp sp3. Any idea what could be wrong?

No worries. The addons are not intended to be unzipped, and should be placed in the `game/addons` folder which you may need to create. Unzipping the file may be the reason for the slow down since the md5 checksum must be applied to each individual file instead of the entire zip, but the bugfix addon is not that large and I suspect that isn't it. You did not unzip the tome `team` file, right?
Try the above, and if slow loading persists please check the log file for any `Lua error` messages. On Windows the log file is automatically stored in the directory with the ToME executable and called something like `te4.log`. On Linux the log is sent to stdout, and you should launch ToME with the following command to capture it for later perusal: `./t-engine --flush-stdout > te4.log`. Finally on OSX you need to open the `Console` application and search for `Lua error` messages there. Hope this helps, cheers!

So you are telling me that the zipfile that I downloaded should be placed in that directory..still zipped? Ok, dont make since as the zip contains folders and directorys. But I will put the zip there.

Okay I did that and its still butt slow. The only thing thats changed is my graphics card. I run it on an old p4 1.5 with 512ram gf 3 ti 64ram xp sp3.....now the graphics card is a radion 7500 64ram. Could the card be the problem? It runs everything I run on this comp except Tome and my wife's Bejeweled Twist. Any ideas?

- You download b37 and it runs smoothly with no addons.
- You add the `tome-bugfixes-b37.teaa` to the `game/addons` directory and loading of the ToME is now slow, but loading of the main menu is still fast.
- You have checked the log file after trying to load with the addon and there are no mentions of `Lua errors`.

Okay I think it must be the graphics card as I uninstalled everything and reinstalled with the patch addon.
1. Not anymore! I get the opening picture and then the status line with a slow load 1 percent at a time.
2. Both with and without addon is slow loading now.

I noticed that your game went from 1024x768 (fullscreen) and then switched to 1024x753 (windowed).
Tome takes a long time to change resolution even on my radeon hd 6850. This is probably the source of your problem.

I'm wondering why it did that? I never changed from full screen 1024 * 768. Guess we found a bug huh. Any way to fix?
Okay I tried setting 800 * 600 and disabling features. No matter what the game loads slow and is unplayable. I did notice however something funny. I got tired of waiting for the slow load on boot up and hit control alt delete. When I did this the process window came up and tome suddenly loaded super fast. But however when I went back in it was at the main menu and still unplayable slow. Any more ideas or is this bugged beyond belief? Thanks for any help!
