I understand what hp, mp, and stamina are, but in ToME, there seem to be many alternate energy reserves, for example paradox, equilibrium, and hate. Hate is easy enough to understand, but I do not understand these other statuses. Could someone create a non-spoilery explanation for these things?
I just unlocked two new classes and I'm feeling limited by my lack of understanding of these things.
Thanks!

Equilibrium? Paradox?

Re: Equilibrium? Paradox?
Mousing over the bars should give you a general explanation.
Both of these are measures of balance though. Equilibrium is how out of balance you are with nature and the higher it is the higher your talent failure rate with talents that use the resource. Paradox is very similar but it's how out of balance the spacetime continuum has become. It can be much less forgiving then Equilibrium but works similarly.

Re: Equilibrium? Paradox?
In case it isn't clear: You can, in theory, spend as much paradox or equilibrium as you want. At least, there's no rigid cap as there is with stamina or mana. 'Spending' it increases your total.
However, as your total increases, your failure rate for skills that use that meter goes up, too.
It doesn't go down or 'recover' naturally; you have to use talents to reduce it. You start with one (generally unsuitable for use in combat) and most classes can learn more.
Paradox additionally increases the power of a number of temporal talents as you gain more of it; however, this is a mixed blessing, since of course they'll be more powerful, but fail more often. Plus, it sometimes makes them backfire or cause random unpredictable effects (though Paradox backlash can sometimes hurt your enemy instead of you -- it isn't always bad.)
For both, sustaining a talent increases your total (and thus your failure rate) by the sustain cost for as long as you keep it sustained.
