Re: Worst enemy
sure. archers generally are among worst enemies and when the enemy archer is you, with a nice bow, aiming, being able to do tremendous amount of damage... ><Tom wrote: Now I just fought the Boss and the mirrored image of myself and that archer together with the boss was a tough nut to crack.
On the brink of death I finally caught them both but it was way to close for bad nerves.
i won this battle yesterday and it was a very close call. i made some mistakes though because it was my first time there. relaxed after killing hordes of helpless shades i descended and suddenly met that cultist guy. aim, scatter shot, etc, he summoned a shade of me, frightened i tried to flee upstairs and removed aim just to realize there were no upstairs >< so now i was against the mage and the aiming shade of me, having aim on cooldown. in a short fight i killed the shade and had ~170 hp, ~+70hp regeneration which had 1 last turn, ~-100hp burning and two diseases -50hp each, ~50% blight and ~30% fire resistance, shield on cooldown and no means to heal. wild hopefully removed burning, i teleported away, rested a bit and then killed the cultist (who turned invisible meantime :3)
Re: Worst enemy
I've made it quite a bit further in the game now, and I think archers are universally the worst enemies. Never mind their various obnoxious abilities, like pinning. They hit for much more damage than the average melee attacker of equivalent level. All I can figure is that 1) skeletons have great stats for archers, and most archers seem to be skeletons, and 2) archers often get ego'ed arrows, even though the average player rarely uses ammunition outside of crucial fights.
Orc wyrmics are a constant annoyance, and encountering one early on can be really dangerous. However, they also seem to trip all over themselves, hitting their allies with breath attacks and that ice-storm sustained ability (I forget what it is called). It's pretty funny to see "Frozen! Frozen!" pop up all over the level in places I have yet to explore.
It's a little too spoily to mention bosses here... I'll just say that I was one-shotted by an optional boss. One round of 500+ damage, daze, and another round of 500+ damage. Wow. Not sure if I'll ever try that again.

Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
Re: Worst enemy
I'm really getting sick of high level blood liches with call shadows. I've had several of these show up in my last couple games in Dreadfell vaults:
1. The shadows start appearing over most of the level. This happens regardless of whether you've even opened the vault or seen the lich. It really sucks if you're already facing a crown of undead and these start appearing right next to you, so you teleport or phase door and they still keep appearing right next to you. They also do an awesome job of plugging up corriders, limiting your movement.
2. They're stupidly hard to hit for a melee character. With a level 30 or so berserker with maxed precise strikes and good str/dex, I was hitting them 1 or 2 times out of ten.
3. They're relentless. They get something like 1000 turns and they respawn constantly. I tried spending some time killing them over and over thinking the guy has to run out of hate sooner or later, but they just kept popping up.
4. Individually they don't hit too hard, but there's always 4 to 6 of them and they can hit on every turn.
5. I hate them.

Re: Worst enemy
Hmm, the one you're focusing on in the first image only has a defense of 24... and yet you can only hit it 20% of the time? Something's wrong there.
Re: Worst enemy
Pretty sure shadows have evasion, allowing them to dodge melee attacks that would have otherwise hit them.

Just met my first blood lich in Dreadfell.
Those shadows kept coming in and as I remembered this post I knew what I was up against.
Finally, but it took 30mins or maybe an hour he bit the dust.

Re: Worst enemy
They have ruined levels for me, in that I've had to skip vaults and descend further to get past them. They are INCRDIBLY annoying and should be NERFED!!! Most characters can't hit them.
MADNESS rocks

I met a second one on Dreadfell (8).jenx wrote:They have ruined levels for me, in that I've had to skip vaults and descend further to get past them. They are INCRDIBLY annoying and should be NERFED!!! Most characters can't hit them.
But he did not spam the shadows like the first one did.
But as soon I opened the door to the vault the shadows came, but not as much as the first one.
Perhaps difference in levels. I forgot to peek what lvl they had.
Annoying yes, but not impossible to fight.

Re: Worst enemy
Heh, it's not just me then. A couple days ago I was playing as a summoner and ran into one in a maze-like farportal level. That one I really couldn't do anything about except teleport away--those narrow corriders kept filling with little, respawning black b's, and I couldn't even manage to get close enough to see the enemy.
On the other hand, kinda makes me want to start up a doomed build focusing on call shadows.

Re: Worst enemy
The most annoying thing about the shadows is that a Blood Lich inside a vault will summon them constantly to harass you as you clear the rest of the level, even before you've opened the vault.
Re: Worst enemy
This place has without any doubt my worst enemy.
But today he bit the dust!

Re: Worst enemy
Well, there's... Um... That is...
Brittle clear oozes? Yeah, those. Also, the occasional Ghoulking and any mob with Corrupter skills. The Crypt encounter is always one of the most harrowing, especially before I knew how useful Invisibility runes were. And wretchlings, field effects are obnoxious.
I'm probably the only one who has had this issue, but all of the Gloomy mobs in the Heart of the Gloom can be a real pain. Generally they are just annoying (Poison Ivy with Blindside!?!), but I did recently lose a life during the boss fight simply because I got mobbed and Reproach HURTS. It doesn't help that my Doomed probably had especially low mental save due to some cursed equipment.

Re: Worst enemy
Blood liches are a royal pain, IMO... shadow crypt 3 had always been a pushover to me though... long, drawn out, but never really much of a challenge because you could get a (hostile) meat shield between you and the only other hostile thing down there. Usually stopped the other thing from attacking, most of the time.
