Lucky finds

#1 Post by Derakon »

I just found this in a town in the Land of Rhun:

The Demonshield 'Nienel' [5, +4]
It provides immunity to acid, electricity, and cold. It provides resistance to nether and nexus. It speeds your regenerative powers. It reflects bolts and arrows. It cannot be harmed by acid, cold, lightning, or fire.

A steal at ~55k AU. And maybe now I'll be able to take on that Undead Beholder quest at 2000'...

What lucky finds have you gotten lately?

I got a couple of really nice artifact swords, including Ringil, a few weeks back. With a Jedi that can only weild Lightsabers. Very sad.
And it was such a good idea...

After just having found the Phial of Galadriel on lev 22 of the Orc caves, I stumble upon shops on Old forest level 13 (the top level) and find some really nice boots:

'The pair of hard leather boots of Belin' [3,+21]
It sustains your wisdom. It makes you completely fearless. It provides resistance to electricity, fire, poison, light, dark, sound, shards, nether, nexus, chaos and disenchantment. It cannot be harmed by acid, cold, lighnting or fire.

That's quite a few resistances on one pair of boots!

While heading for a fated artefact on level 14, visiting the shop on level 13 of the old Forest, I stumbled upon a very nice randart sling to replace farmer maggot's sling with. (I rarely use my ranged weapon, I have wands, rods and staves for that)

The sling 'Salion' (x5) (+13,+9)(+3)
It provides light (radius 1) forever. It increases your strenght, intellingence, wisdom, dexterity, constitution and charisma by 3.
It fires missiles with extra might. It fires missiles excessively fast. It cannot be harmed by ... ...
At level 33, my stats are now 38/40/39/37/40/39.

My luckiest find: A ration of food. (I was dying from hunger at the time.)

i got myself the mattock of nain, very useful as i can climb mountains and dig without the BS(also provides some other pluses and resistances. i got it in the sacred LoM in a vault). as well as a scroll of artifact creation that i used on a ring of extra attacks (+3) which up'ed it to a +4 to critical hits, constitution, added blindness and nexus resistances, strength, dexterity, and charisma sustenance, and the ability to fly to top it off. anyone know where i can find more of those scrolls? they are bad ass! 8)

The Mattock of Nain is great. There is only one other digger artifact, and it probably isn't as good.

Scrolls of Artifact Creation are very rare. Most games go by without ever seeing one. Also, most of the time you use them the artifact isn't all that great. At the deep levels where they tend to turn up there are plenty of randarts, so being able to create one isn't all that useful.

darn, so they all won't turn out as cool as "The Ring called 'Josh's Ring of Massacre"? (thats what i named it, and yeah i know, totally awesome name). funny thing about those digging artifacts, i went back to the LoM, and found the other one! "The Dwarven Pick of Erebor (+5)" also allows for climbing like the mattock, light rad. 1, adds 5 to strength and tunneling ability, sustains strength and gives light/dark and chaos resistance. it can be activated for "open a secret passage" every 75 turns. (would this be useful for mt. doom's lava walls? and where would it be most advantageous? i've never seen this before). so not as good as the mattock but still nice. ooh i forgot to mention another lucky find, "the small metal shield 'thlos'." dex. sustenance, acid resistance and the best part - cold, fire and electricity immunity! (def. a lifesaver!)

I believe that "Open Secret Passage" operates the same way as the spell "Probability Travel", which does work on Mt Doom except for the top level. It is an incredibly powerful spell if you have some sort of distance attack, because by picking your terrain you can shoot and scoot and never get hit. Playing sorcerors I like to take on most of the high-level uniques on Mt Doom because they can't get through the lava.

I found a scroll of artifact creation in the Bree black market and uses it on my amulet of brilliance +5 which added disenchantment resist, which was exactly whAt I needed so I could
wear Flare when I found it

I also found a randart ring that was ridiculous. +6 attacks and +4 critical chance plus a couple of high level resists. Fat lot of good it does my sorcerer, so Into the mathom house it went.

Btw, I think there is a page on the wiki that has a bunch of peoples examples of awesome randarts. Good for a " oh why can't I find that" if you feel like looking.

There was a long thread here about randart rings that was deleted when the forum was hacked. It is not unusual to find rings with 9 or more attacks. The consensus was that using one (for a warrior type) was pretty munchkinish.

Yeah if you REALLY want to munchkin, macro up theft from the Rare Jewelry Store. The artifacted +12 speed rings (with extra blows and a stat or two) are silly-powerful. No one ever claimed T2 was a haven for balance.
