Merging spellbooks?

#1 Post by sektor666 »

Is there any way of merging several spellbooks into one? So far I only managed to find two (Beginner Cantrips and Teleportation) spellbooks that contained multiple spells, all others only have single spells in them and carrying so many spellbooks really gets troublesome :/

sooner or later you will find school spellbooks that contain all the spells in that school

also there is a quest in minas tirith that lets you build your own spellbook as a reward.

Just a little clarification: The spellbooks with all the school spells in them are called "tomes" in-game.

Also, a lot of equipment has slots for scribing a single spell into (use the "Copy spell" option from the 'm' menu). Combined with the quest spellbook this will usually be enough to get rid of at least two tomes.

Do note that most tomes are not guarded against fire attacks (unlike the dungeon spellbooks in most Angband variants). There's a quest in Lothlorien that can fireproof three books for you, though.

Personally, I find the individual-spell book system in ToME to be incredibly cumbersome, especially when it comes to important utility spells (the most glaring example being Identify). I've thus modded Bookstores to carry Tomes of Knowledge. Saves me a lot of tedium.

You can find tomes in many dungeon towns if they have the right shops. They are also fairly common at the bottom of the Sandworm Lair.

I like TOME's method of spellbooks vs Vanilla and similar variants with fixed books. objects "of Spell" are very helpful in the midgame as you can copy key spells into them. Of course this only is useful for those who macro their spells as it can be a pain switching between inventory and equipment displays for those who are long hand keying out spell sequences (mcaa or mc/aa).

The variety and flexibility is great.
