Found a junkart that can activate for 'acquirement'

#1 Post by martinuzz »

Is this 'acquirement' always a positive thing?

You always get a good item. Note that is not the same as what you get from the scroll.

This has come up before... there is a vanishingly small chance of a special! The vast majority of items you get will be "good". It is not really worth using unless you need some cash and are prepared for the recharge time!

Yeah, basically all it does is generate an item that is guaranteed to be at least of {good} quality. Sounds good, but the horrible recharge time means that while it recharges you could generate a hundred {good}-quality items by killing monsters.

Ahhh.... Items.. I thought it might be something like the trap of acquirement, and thus give you abilities like ESP, for example.
Thanks for the clarification on that!

note that the trap of acquirement is like the scroll it generally gives you an excellent or special item

Yes indeed. The wait is not worth it. I found a 2nd junkart with the acquirement ability. Will throw em both away I think..

Because now.. I've found a scroll of acquirement, and identified the recipe to make them myself. 10 essences of magic grmbl grmbl.

Did you say that the scrolls generally yield better items than the junkart? And is there a reason to read a scroll of acquirement deep in the dungeon, or does it work just as well in town?

You want to read them deep down.

Scrolls of acquirement generate an item that is of at least {excellent} quality (as opposed to the {good} quality generated by the junkarts). They're still unlikely to give you anything useful, but they have much better odds than the junkarts do. And yes, the quality of the item you get is dependent on the level at which the scroll is read.

There are also *Aquirement* scrolls which generate multiple such items.

Does dungeon level also affect what junkarts yield, or does it just affect that of scrolls?

Yes, depth affect what you get with the junkart, but it is still 'good' what you get, relative to your dungeon level. I agree with other commenters, junkart of adquirement are useful to be activated once when you find them, and then forget about them.
