Syzygy, a Geomancer

#1 Post by madmonk »

I have never played a Geomancer. So I am now playing one! I quite like the old Thunderlord so I have prepared a skill-plan based on it...

So I shall max Geomancy and all 4 sub-skills, Magic and Spell-power. I shall put enough into Conveyance to get Teleport. Since I can Thunderoad out I don't need to go as far as Recall. I want to get Vision and the usual pile of Detects (and Identify). The rest goes into Prayer and I am going to have to do all 5 God Quests () to get Manathrust and so on. Symbiosis is nice, but I don't have the spell points to spare and anway not necessary and given all the area affect Damage dealing I have summoning is also out. I shall do my usual 49 Princess/FF quests

Code: Select all

Based on Thunderlord Hermit Geomancer
Used 294 of 294 points [req. level 50]
Combat (0) 1.000 [0.200]
Weaponmastery (0) 1.700 [0.400]
Sneakiness (0) 4.400 [0.900]
Stealth (0) 0.000 [0.400]
Magic (35) 50.000 [0.900]
Magic-Device (0) 2.000 [1.050]
Spell-power (70) 50.000 [0.700]
Geomancy (70) 50.000 [0.700]
Fire (16) 50.000 [1.050]
Water (16) 50.000 [1.050]
Air (16) 50.000 [1.050]
Earth (16) 50.000 [1.050]
Meta (0) 0.000 [0.700]
Conveyance (15) 10.500 [0.700]
Divination (22) 15.400 [0.700]
Temporal (0) 0.000 [0.700]
Mind (0) 0.000 [0.700]
Nature (0) 0.000 [0.700]
Udun (0) 0.000 [0.400]
Necromancy (0) 0.000 [0.700]
Runecraft (0) 0.000 [0.700]
Thaumaturgy (0) 0.000 [0.700]
Spirituality (0) 7.490 [0.550]
Prayer (18) 24.000 [0.500]
Monster-lore (0) 0.000 [0.500]
The adventure plan is to do the Thieves quest (which should take me to level 4) and it will take until Clevel 2 or 3 until I can use Channel Elements and start to deal some damage. So I shall be relying on my staff and Geyser () initially. After that I shall start hunting for Noxious Cloud, Disarm, Identify, and Beginner's Cantrips. This will be my starting book bag. To get that I will probably go into the Swamp south of Bree, at CL4 I should be able to work my way up to say CL10. we shall see where this takes us.

Knowing my style of play I will probably die very fast!

I forgot... I used the Ineffable Zizzo's Skill Point Allocation Tester so hat's off to him!

It is here and as a Java app here.

I love geomancers! They are a cool class, I won with one: here is the char sheet.

They are a bit tricky to play but they are a lot of fun. You don't need manatrust, actually I think the character is more interesting without manatrust because you get to use new, more varied strategies.

Also you get summoning from geomancy itself, but personally I don't like sumoning very much.

I moved your topic over to the Gameplay forum. This is where I'd like all of the DitL's and gameplay-type topics to go.
And it was such a good idea...

There were a couple of winners in the geomancer competition five years ago (ShinesmanOffWhite and me). Neither of us maxed out all the sub skills. Neither of us put anything into water, for example. The character sheets are still accessible off the main Tome page.

My recollection is that with spell power and fire maxed it is easy to take out evil monsters. The big problem I had was dealing damage to non-evil. The last princess quest was for a bunch of grand master mystics and I wasn't sure whether I would be able to finish it.

I'm unaware of that competition, and as I said I have never played a Geomancer!

Act 1 Scene 1 @Home
<Pippa> GrandMa, will you tell us a story?
<GrandMa> What was that, dear, I didn't hear you?
<Arran> You should say please!
<Pippa> Please, oh, please!
<GrandMa> Alright, then... hmmm what should I tell you about? Now sit down next to me, here. So I think I shall tell you when I was a Shirrif in Bree!
<Arran>You're still a Shirrif, Mum!
<GrandMa> I like helping people, dear!
<Pippa> GrandMa! The story...
<GrandMa> Oh, yes!

Act 1 Scene 2 In Bree
<Mayor> Shirrif, Shirrif... Has anyone seen Shirrif Syzygy?
<Anon> We only have one Shirrif!
<Anon2> You can't miss her, she always has that bird with her!
<Mayor> Yes, and I need to see her as soon as possible. If anyone sees him send her to me, I will be in my Office!

<Pippa> What's an Office?
<GrandMa> It's where pompo... hrhmmm... it's where important people do their work! Now where was I?
<Pippa> The mayor!
<GrandMa>Oh, yes... So I walked into the Mayor's office.

<Mayor>Shirrif, I have an important task for you, apparently the Thieves Guild have a branch office here in Bree, please investigate and shut it down.
<GrandMa> Of course, Mr Mayor! Do I get any assistance in this matter?
<Mayor> Certainly not we can't afford to hire any other Shirrifs, you are the best we have!
<GrandMa> I'm the only one...
<Mayor>Yes, yes, and very good you are too!

<Arran>Ha! Ha! Ha! You were a terrible Shirrif!
<Pippa>No, she wasn't, Daddy, she is the best Shirrif in the world and she is my Shirrif!
<GrandMa>Why, thank you, Pippa. That's a very nice thing to say! Right, well, it took me some time to find out where they were hiding but eventually I did! So I decided to go in and see what was in the building they were located in -
<Pippa> Oooooh! You were very brave, GrandMa!

You should be able to take them out with Noxious clouds, geysers, geomancy bolts, geomancy clouds, geomancy waves, globe of lights, etc... Even Fireflash is efective against them if you don't mind casting a few more times. The only monster I had problems with was with GWoP's, but it was easy enough to scape from them (you could take out all it's summons with a few fireflashes).

you know you are able to max magic with 7 less skill points in it...

oh, and beware, I am running a clone of yours (maybe not stat wise atm, but skill wise). so far I have made it to lvl 9 and fighting dragons. I am not sure how you are investing skill points... but you can beat the thieves quest without using gyser... just use the innate thunder attack. (I died once already though, because I havent played geomancers in a long time and did some stupid stuff)

[edit] actually, you know what... if you are going eru... the 22 points you invest in divination are pointless... as 23 points of prayer will give you the same level. Of course this is your player so you get to decide :) just thought you would want to know.

Actually I wasn't aware of that so looks like I can get a whole bunch of extra stuff with the 22 points...

Madmonk, come on man... you know the rules. Upload your character to the oook and provide the link here. Much easier on the eyes.
And it was such a good idea...
