Cursed weapon (-20, -83) - LOLWUT?

#1 Post by tajeh »

Hey folks, so I was strolling through the orc caves, easy breezy. 8) Picking up stuff and waiting for it to be pseudo-id, then whoop - the equipment-changing trap springs up. And I cant hit creatures anymore

Yeah, so now I wield a Zweihander I've just scooped up from cave floor, and what? Cant remove? (-20, -83)? Doesnt become uncursed by a scroll of Remove Curse????

Guys, what Im supposed to do? Scum the shops for *Remove Curse*? (if there is any, at all)

A regular remove curse scroll should clear that up just fine. No reason in my mind that it shouldn't work. Just make sure you check the temple and magic shops in towns.
And it was such a good idea...

Possibly a weapon of Nothingness or Morgul. Even worse could be a randart with a bad curse. Some of these curses can spread to your other equipment, meaning you might have to replace all your equipment.

Xandor, no, a regular Remove Curse wouldn't work, I've read like 20 scrolls to no effect  :<

Yottle, exactly, a weapon of Nothingness, and quite big nothingness at that

But yaayy! After scumming the shops for, like, 15000 or 20000 turns, I got a *Remove Curse* from temple shop! :o
It worked like a charm, so go away evil Zweihander, shoo! 8)

It's a little late, but curses can be broken by enchanting a weapon or armor (for example, to de-curse Mormegil). If you had gathered five or ten ? of Enchant Weapon to Damage or Accuracy you could have broken it.

Aside from that solution is there any other possible solution or options? Are there any additional ideas that might help to prevent from encountering the problem such as that?

Identifying stuff before you equip them. :)
I've heard that *remove curse* has a chance to flip the negatives into positive numbers, but never managed that myself. The chance must be really small.
A highly +enchanted Dark Sword (wasn't that the antimagic one (been so long since I last played ToME2)) in the hands of an Unbeliever is a fantastic weapon.
Stronk is a potent combatant with a terrifying appearance.

Even ordinary remove curse has a small chance of flipping a cursed item. It works fairly well with an item like amulet of doom which autocurses, but not very likely with an ordinary cursed item where you have one shot.

The bonuses on a dark sword subtract from your antimagic skill, so an unenchanted one is better most of the time. You can just walk up to a druj or Q and slaughter it. I wouldn't recommend this with Ancalagon, though.
