What to do about tunneling for possessors

#1 Post by Lord Estraven »

The situation is as follows:

- Most monsters do not have tool inventory slots
- You need a digger to dig
- Furthermore, diggers provide a substantial bonus (pval * 20) to digging. Which means that without a digger you're not getting anywhere fast.

Since being able to dig is rather essential, I'm thinking of changing how this works, but I'm not sure how to do it. What do you people think would be a reasonable way to make tunneling possible without a digging tool, without terribly unbalancing the game?

P.S. What's the deal with being unable to tunnel through doors?

I have been playing ent possessors lately. Two points into Boulder Throwing means that I can get through a regular wall. However, rubble still presents a problem. Tree Walking gets around obstacles in dungeons with trees. Bashing can open doors if I don't have hands.

Mmm, kludgy. :)

To be truthful, I'm more in favor of removing tunneling to the greatest extent possible; i.e. magical in nature, or not at all. But this would entail a lot of work redoing all the vaults to be no-tunnel-friendly.
