Also, looking at the log, it kinda looks like the real issue was that the boss was trucking around with high Essence of Speed/Momentum.

Both of those are listed-and very dangerous-sustains, and stacked, they can do...well, that. Looking over the skillset would have shown you that it was actually capable of killing you even worse than it did.

However, rather than even backing off from this nasty combo, you apparently took it on with another Rare sitting there.

It's easy to get complacent with a tank like Sun Paladin, sadly. :| Never forget that, no matter how strong you are, something can force you to run.
The main problem on top of high essence of speed/momentum (like 200%+ global speed) is that being 11 points into rush and extra high points into other moves that cause instant kill (flurry/all shadow abilities) and then the ability to stun me every single time he crit (which was 100%) and more.

So I turn the corner and bam instant killed for 1k+ a hit without any reaction time and I rezzed twice with vial of blood and the ring of undead only to be one shotted again. (With everything be perma stunned with the new backstab)

The main problem here is with the new backstab added stun chance which bypasses stun resist with the rest of the skill set being 100% with many deadly multihitting abilities that can teleport him to you or ect.

I believe this counts within "cheap instantgibs" as it requires extreme amount of setup just to be able to bypass this thing and even then you might not be able too. (Even at 70% resists in the damage it did + wearing heavy armor it'll still have 2-3 turns on me every time I even move perma stunning me and critting me hitting 200-300+) What if it flurried/Ambuscade or ect. It wasn't missing with 100+ acc anytime soon ;v

It does check stun resistance. It doesn't do a power vs save check.

It probably ought to do Accuracy vs Defense or Physsave, but I somehow doubt either would have saved you here.

Heavy armor lowers critical hit rates, as well as causing you to tank physical damage much better. You're running a Sun Paladin(low damage class) without heavy armor-you really have to be careful of all physical damage attackers.

Put it this way-Grushnak could have potentially crit oneshot you with Mighty Blow, I think, if your armor is as low as was said. He isn't a random boss...or, even, a major stumbling block, for most players.

Mages and other light armor classes deal with this by not relying on just their HP and standard defenses, and by fighting at range, or, in the case of the Rogue types, by simply dealing huge damage to end fights fast. But Sun Paladin is close range, low damage-you really need to keep a spare heavy armor to swap to, if you're going that route, and keep an eye on potential physical damage threats.

...Also, since I'm trying to give real advice here, I went ahead and looked up the character. You ran such a low damage Sun Paladin that you skipped every single major physical damage skill. As such, your damage was probably less than half that of a normal Sun Paladin at that point. Even one point in Assault/Crusade/Overpower would have meant much better damage output, and a higher potential to win slugfests.

The spellpower heavy build is neat, but it's definitely not optimal-that's why Anorithil exists. And you've discovered why, if you'd asked advice on such a unique build, I'd have suggested Telos Top instead of Dawn's Blade-you're geared fully for Spellpower, and your resists/armor are startlingly bad for such a late point, as such. Dropping some of those equips for better resistances equips and better armor, and using Telos Top or Life Drinker instead of Dawn's Blade, which is a much worse Spellpower equip, would have given you the same overall benefits.

Basically, it's a neat concept, but when you try a totally different build from usual, then die for it, don't instantly call the thing that killed you overpowered. It might be, but it's really hard to tell if your build isn't more the problem.

Level 36 naga psyren in old forest 3 critted me for 270 mind damage with mind sear after silencing me... On normal.

Hummerhorn wyrmic - Ice claw followed by Death blow before I could react (because it had a global speed increase). And yeah, I got instakilled by damn death blow. First time I saw that skill do anything useful.

It actually don't show the killing blow. I was straight one shot by a rare (not stair boss) Freeze, for 1300dmg. I know this is Nightmare, but... the only way I could prevent it would be to constantly walk with Meditation on and cheese-spam summons everywhere. I even had prodigy to prevent such situations and went max on Con. Oh, and it wasn't even a crit... don't see how it's survivable save for (impossible to get for me) Cauterize.

Level 38 Patchwork Troll spawned in Trollmire 4. I was level 9.

Obviously, as an Archmage I'd rolled an Archmage's Amulet of Manastreaming, an Ash Staff and the Fire Unique Gloves before the third T1 dungeon so I knew the rng had it in for me, but still.

Necro grey mold spawned in Old Forest with Impending Doom, that ice spell with a radius of like 5, doing quite more than enough damage to guarentee the kill. Also it had teleport, and blurred morality to last for ages, so basically, I would find it, it would drain 80% of my health with impending doom, I would get it low, it would teleport away, healing a bit, repeat until at 0 health, repeat until actually dead. Basically it very slowly instagibbed me, and after burning through a blood of life i had to hunt it down about 5 times in order to actually kill it, and it nearly killed me every single time with just one impending doom. Also it could summon minions to make it worse.

Back again.
This time I got legit oneshot by a shadowstep from a stealth boss at only level 13.

In short: Shadowstep 202% darkness per weapon + Corrupted strength 103% more + Shadow Combat
So yeah 305% of each weapon + additional damage, the first weapon had 70 damage and the other 35
A crit would have doubled that because level 6 lethality. I even had a good 20% resist against the attack.

Didn't save the log but...Blade Horror floor boss in High Peak with corrupted strength and greater weapon focus. Bastard 1-shot my AM Cursed through rampage and a -1000 heroism infusion. absolutely nuts.

Blade horrors get 4 attacks per turn. This is usually balanced by their low damage, but not for rares/uniques.

Just got instakilled (on nightmare difficulty) by a regular Snow Giant Boulder Thrower. The weird thing is that it appears to have hit for less than my maximum health (damage log says 270ish, health was 700ish). Also the log claims that it killed me and my summons multiple times. Bug?

This week i have been instagibbed by Nightmare summons (shadows in particular, summoners frequently ... gorramn drakes!, necromancers sometimes - skeleton warriors/archers at higher level than the highest of high peak vaults hurt) about twenty thousand times. They continue to make trash more terrifying than all bosses below the final two or Rampaging PMage bone giants~
