oh and found the old man willow's barkwood... there is no description on it and it exits out of the inventory if you attempt to look at it when in the inventory screen.

[edit: actually it doesnt, it just blanks the inventory screen, rings of nature resistance do the same thing.... moving past them with the arrow keys is ok though here is the error output from stdout

also found the staff of destruction too.

and I noticed that stats can be increased past the 60 point via rings/amulets (right now I am at 66dex and 70 cun :D)

Yes for the stats shoob, that's normal, the max will be 60 for natural stat and no limit for objects.

I'll look into the old man willow, I must admit I was kind of busy and rushed it ;)

When you step on an object it normally reports at the bottom of the screen what it is.

If the system reports that a spell is available or the Date & Time it will overwrite that report so you don't know what the object is. You have to step off it and back on so that you can find out what it is.

oh... and that isnt my best find... I have a mithril plate on and am wearing a +4 ring of regeneration :D

ok.... that made me think... the bark dropped before I encountered mr willow. but like you said it was done quickly


and a thought I had

another option with the staff of absorption is to make it so that when the player takes it in town and either enters the inn or his house or mathom place he will get a message about 2 blue cloaked strangers watching him... if he goes into the inn, there could be a conversation with them... only for the player to realize the staff has been stolen afterwards (if he only eats it will treat it like a rest, because they made you sleep) otherwise it will be stolen from the house/mathom place.

talking to the mayor or someone will reveal going to gondor to find out more about the blue cloaked men and why they would want the staff. en route there will be the ambush... then talking to them in gondor will reveal who they are and that they are in the east somewhere and that you need to get the staff post-haste.

If you drop it or leave it alone when it is found, upon leaving the level (if it is not wielded/in inventory), you get a message about blue cloaked figures rushing past you holding a staff glowing with power and you think you should consult the wise men in Gondor.

This will settle any problems with players trying to mathom or lose the staff of absorption before going to Gondor creating an unbeatable game. (the other option would be to make it like the one ring, undroppable and auto goes into inventory if found).

I know this is a bit early, but decided to give you some time to mull through it.

and tried out the maze... noticed that it is fairly easy to navigate through right now (dont try running though) and that maybe bill the troll is the current maze boss. (if he isn't then he was generated in there somehow.

I always hated the auto-inventory bit for the ring...

Give the players the option of selling it (for not a lot of money), give them the opportunity to lose it some way (any way possible) and then let them realise (after consulting the Wise men) what they had and so on... Much more fun!

yep... the way I put it makes it so that you can do anything you want to it (besides destroy it of course) and you wont have to worry about it affecting the game...

However, I might put in 2 staffs of absorption or something (one that you find first that you dont know how to use), another that you get late game that you can use. presumably the staff had to be powered up or something with the right magic words that the blue wizards found out but you dont know (maybe bringing it to the wise ones in Gondor will mention something like that, but only if you bring it to them... they will store it then (saying it would be best not to use and it will get stolen too (like you originally planned).

my reasoning on why to make it unusable at first:
- do we want them to use it on the bosses that they havent defeated yet to gain their power?

I guess my main question is this... what exactly will it do? will you gain hp, mana, stamina, stats, talents? from the monsters that you use the staff on? still a bit early for this, but I am curious (fortunately I am not a cat ;))

Strange thing...

I picked up a Ring of Cold Resistance and decided to have a look at it.

So I pressed <i> and scrolled down to the ring. As soon as I got to the ring the screen disappeared. If you pressed the up or down arrow the inventory screen came back, actually I don't think it went away at all.

It does the same thing for rings of Lightning Resistance. It does not do it for a ring of Physical Resistance.

[UPDATE]Just picked up a ring of Acid Resistance and it does it there too...

Yes something is broken in the desc of resistances, that's why the old man willow barkwood does not work either :/

while I was there I noted a few things... rings of physical resistance are the same as rings of spell resistance.

also something that has been there for a while, just haven't mentioned it. but when you wear a ring of defense, it doesn't apply the change to the display... do they work or no? or should their combat_defense be turned into a combat_def?

I put in a bunch of description modifiers so I could see what I was getting without having to guess...

if you want any of these, feel free to nab them. the last 2 maybe shouldnt be shown, but it would take like 2 seconds to figure out what exactly they are, so I put them in.

and I also saw that if you create a character with the same name as an existing one, the existing one is erased... maybe make a warning message/dont let this happen.

then finally, I noted that monsters are maxed at 18-19 in the old forest, and you dont find much higher or lower level monsters in there, even from the beginning.

and then the display for defence should be changed to defense (where it sums up all the defense and shows it)
