Re: RFT14
My first character (that made it out of Amon Sul) has just died at level 9 in the Sandworm Lair. Those collapsing walls are nasty! Killed the Shade, Old Man Willow and *** the Stone Troll (can't remember which one it was
), so I've had a decent look around. Off to try a more melee intensive class now.
From a playtesting perspective, could you give me some idea of the feedback I should be providing? Clearly there are a lot of things which aren't implemented yet, but having come into this part way through, I'm not sure of the current thrust of development. Are you after a list of things I think need doing, or rather comments on the classes and monsters which exist at the moment? eg. 'Recall scrolls don't do anything' versus 'omg freeze is imba!'

Re: RFT14
Both
Anything that crosses your mind, from bugs (obviously) to imbalances to ideas. If something says "not implemented" though do not report it I know about it
On the priority list to try are the "uncommon" classes like Arcane Blade, Shadowblade, Rogue, archer maybe
PS: I do not think I'll actually have recall at all. Most places are not too deep and in a few I'll put a teleporter at the end, like the maze.

Re: RFT14
Ah that's handy, because my first character was an Arcane Blade and I was planning to try a Shadowblade next
By 'says "not implemented"', do you mean that there's a log somewhere showing what's in and what's planned to be in?

Re: RFT14
No, I mean a few spells & talents do say in game "not implemented"

Re: RFT14
hmmm..... got this:

I have been walking around that snake for at least 20 or so turns, it still hasn't started targeting me, no errors though. my guess it has something to do with the snake movement.
[EDIT: woah... nevermind that last part, one clearing down from that is a dire wolf who is doing the same thing... I guess they are just "sleeping" though they shouldnt do that should they?
also (npc related) what about making it so leveling schemes are renamed to more generic terms? because certain things overlap, and so having people things with animals sounds strange (like snakes *could* use slinger auto level, but they def are not slingers) nothing of vital importance, just would make the code less strange.
Also, I am thinking a README.txt file to put in the npc folder would be nice (either you or me could do it). This would hold a generic base and a generic monster, with everything defined. Also it would have a list of all damage types (for weapon damage or unarmed combat), available colors (remind me to fix war bears or fix them yourself (make them {120,47,0} or something similar, I think), available talents (just the name (given as T_TALENT) as well as a short description, what it does, and if equipment is needed to use it), these talents would be grouped into what category they fall into. This would take a while, but then could be used not only for people editing the ToME module, but for people wondering how to make monsters later (it would have to be changed for that, but the general idea would stay). what do you think?

Re: RFT14
and the game seems to sometimes crash suddenly, last time it happened was when I was running, there are no error messages whatsoever...
and I was wondering if it would be possible to show either the % encumbrance somewhere or the current/total encumbrance.

Re: RFT14
Hm weird !
Ye I'll display encumberance, somehow
As for the monster creation manual it's a good idea but I think it should be part of some docs on the site. Though I'd be happy if you did it. But I though you were busy ?

Re: RFT14
yeah, but at least this week is less hectic than last week, no school this week or next for me (besides some error fixing for my final project). and no work this week either.
looking for work though (basically overtime, 10-12 hrs a day).
so I will try to squeeze in a couple monsters (have a bunch of ghosts lined up too, they need to be changed and put into sorted files) (also I think that my mummy and skeleton list would be much easier to incorporate as egos for humanoids.
also, before I forget, not all egos seem to be adding (eg found a "bright" lantern with only 1 square of illumination (one less than the normal one)) that is not the only example too, kinetic and of power does it as well too, and they probably all do. I dont think it is a problem if the ego adds something that isnt on the base, but if it is, it replaces, not adds to it.
also new ego ideas:
footwear:
" of stability" provides immunity to knockbacks (like the armor, but no stun resistance)
helms:
" of the clear mind" provides resistance to confusion and stunning. (.7 or 70%)

You are a native of the town of Bree, a multicultural town that both men and hobbits call home.
Humans are the most common race of the land, and you are one of them. In an attempt to prove your worth you have decided to venture into the old and wild places of the world, looking for ancient treasures and glory.
You have come to a land called Rhudaur, just east of Bree, in search of the ruined tower of Amon S?l. You heard the caves below were infested by vermin and undead.
Nearby, to the east, lie the Trollshaws another dangerous place, an old forest infested with trolls and all kinds of wild animals.
After days of travels you have found the ruined tower and entered the caves, what will you find there...

You are a Dúnedain, one of the last descendants of the proud men of Númenor.
Hailing from a great line of greater men you have decided to prove your worth by venturing into the old and wild places of the world, looking for ancient treasures and glory.
