Re: Chart of the survival rate of each class (ohh pretty sta
I'm randomly quoting this post but i could have taken any other post really.gruevy wrote:Can we get a list of percentages of characters that make it to level 10, 20, 30, and 50? It looks like, as a percentage, far more anorithils make it to 50 than any other class.
There's an inherent bias in the DarkGod's sample. Anorithils, cursed, doomed, etc. are all classed that have to be unlocked.
This means that those players who play as anorithils, cursed, dooomed etc. are actually more experienced at playing the game. i) they are more experienced NOW compared to before ii) they are more experienced than new players who can only play one of the stock classes.
I don't even have to go as far as anorithils, cursed and doomed (which i personally haven't unlocked yet) : i can personally attest that i started playing 3 weeks ago. With good old fashioned trial and error i had 20-something YASDs on my first evening. I unlocked the archmage a week later after another batch of YASDs. By them i was tired playing slingers and fighters and whatnot. So now i am at my third cornac archmage (instead of my 20th elf archer and 30th dwarf berserker) and i just beat the Ambush. Is it because archmages are an inherently stronger class than berserkers or is it because *I* am getting the hang of the game?
Anyway, long story short, imho interesting but possibly biased sample. Could be cross-examined with "character survivability vs player experience" (measured by date of registering for example) for statistical significance. I'm pretty sure you'll find a strong correlation.
PS: the automated realtime graphs DarkGod implemented while i was writing this post are beautiful.

While your point has merit erdraug it's also worth noting that the classes that seem to have the best survivability are also the ones that are surviving the most. Anorithil have the best escape spell in the game, chants, hymns, access to the light tree, and to top it all off... they're ranged. The best escape spell in the game thing could be nerfed (maybe I'll sneak something into the next diff I send DG).
Also to contrast your point, Reavers have terrible survivability, are also unlockable, and if you look at the chart no one has gotten one over level 40. There seems to be some correlation here.

That's on the online stats...
I am currently working on a Yeek Reaver at CL41. I will post it when I die/win (whichever comes first)...

Level 1 alive characters should probably be filtered out. I created a lot of them to look at classes or new races to see what they can do.
That would show how hard level 1-5 really is.

The online stats now have an additional option to only use dead chars stats
