How exactly to "flip" a cursed item

#1 Post by bio_hazard »

I've got an amulet of doom [-8] (-7). How exactly does flipping work? I have to wear it, read a remove curse (or *remove curse*?), which will uncurse it, but only some rare fraction of the time will cause the -7 to turn to +7. So I then have to wait for it to recurse itself to try a second time?

Correct. It usually takes 20 or more. You will need *Remove Curse* the first time if it started out heavily cursed. Depending on your speed it will recurse in ~80-100 turns.

It doesn't work with artifacts, by the way.

Thanks- not sure I'll need it after all for this char, but good to know!

I'm at the 3rd special level in Angband now, but haven't yet found anything with water breathing (besides the Phial of Undeath). Hoping Sauron parts with the ring so I don't need to worry about going to Numenor. I've taken out all the other guardians.

edit:
and WIN! Hobbit Warper playing Thaumaturgist. Sauron dropped the ring the second time I found him in Angband. He was there in a side room when I went to Mt. Doom, so I sealed him in with create walls, destroyed the ring, then killed him. First ToME win, and first roguelike win ever for me!

Congratulations! Getting your first win with a warper is impressive. You should post it to the ladder.
