Eggs...

#1 Post by Falconis »

Are they worth it ?(in my opinion: no)

Also, do the companion ones (dragons and firebirds AFAIK (please correct wrongness)) level up and mature?

Well, that is a different question! :)

To 'have I ever found them useful' I had to answer yes, since one time, an egg was very useful to my character. It was a very weak, very low level character. She found a firebird egg (or was it a dragon one? long time ago...) *very* shallow (like DL 1 or 2). It hatched almost instantly, and survived for quite a long time, making itself very useful against assorted low level monsters.

As to whether they are worth it.... probably not. But I still like finding them for some odd reason. :)

I'm fairly certain they don't mature.

the only reason I said yes is that they can bring in some serious cash, if you are about to leave an area; otherwise they are too heavy to lug around!
Eyes burning, reaction rate diminished, vocabulary deteriorating...you have just been infected with the TOME addiction bug causing you to stay up to the wee hours of the morning playing this great game! :D

Pet levelling

Hmm.... Would be interesting to level a sparrow/dragon from 1 onwards... Too bad they'll always be lacking resists.

And there's always the fun of egging an enemy

wow, this is an old thread.

You can buy a sparrow egg.
Let it hatch into a companion.
zap it with a rod of polymorph to get a better companion.
You can keep polymorphing it until you get something that resists confusion IIRC.
If you do this in Angband your companion will be leveled.

I haven't done this in ages, since I almost never use companions, but I did find it amusing for a while.

That is some cool lateral thinking. Never thought of that
