Of Nothing?

#1 Post by gilby »

So, I notice a number of chardumps have various items "of nothing" being carried around. Why? Is there some skill that makes these somehow useful?

I think a rod of Nothing can have a rod tip of something attached to it. Other than that I'm not aware of any uses.

As Atan59 pointed out rods of nothing are necessary if you want to use rod tips. Utility tips like detection and recall can be useful to warrior characters who don't have access to the spell, and the GRT of Home Summoning is useful to anyone except an antimagic character.

Other items of "nothing" (rings, amulets, scrolls, rod tips, wands, staffs) are used by Alchemists to create useful items. Otherwise they are junk.

Yes, I figured out pretty quick that a rod-tip needed to be attached to a Rod of Nothing. I was confused about the Rod Tips of nothing. I assumed at first that a Rod Tip of nothing could be used to blank out a Rod to attach a new tip to it.

Anyway, just a new feature since the last time I spent time with TOME, which was back in the TOME1 era.
