Can stat drain traps reduce the maximum level of a stat?

#1 Post by Ithulta »

I just stumbled across a somewhat deep stat drain trap, And had my dexterity lowered. It was non-restorable, but I just figured I'd hunt down a few dexterity potions and get back to business. It seemed to work, but then I noticed that, though the screen had DEX! on it, I only have 27 not taking into account bonuses from equipment. Since I'm a Thunderlord Sorcerer, I should have +2 in addition to the max of 28. The bonus to dexterity has also disappeared from my character sheet. Can traps do this?

No, traps cannot do this. The function inc_stat() in spells1.c always stops at 18/100, which is 28.

About your Thunderlord Sorcerer, is it Classical or Hermit? The -3 to dexterity of a Hermit might put you at 27.

Oh, you would be right about him being a hermit. Forgot about that. Thanks, nice to know traps can't do that kinda stuff.

Hmm, I just noticed that some time on Mount Doom all my racial bonuses did disappear from my char sheet. I think it happened some time in between when I destroyed the ring and right now. Sauron's only gotten off a "DIE!" curse and a nether ball. I just noticed because I checked my hitpoints and then noticed their max was lower. I now have a CON of 37 instead of 40. I have no idea what caused this. Also, what does the hand of doom spell do?

EDIT:
Ah, just realized that losing Melkor would lower some of my stats and raise others. Still, I don't know why my racial bonuses have disappeared from my char sheet.

EDIT:
I just realized that racial bonuses probably don't even show up on the char sheet (except for a vampire, maybe?). Melkor mods all stats, so that's probably why I was seeing pluses.
