Stuck in Khazad Dum

#1 Post by budswell »

Well the new top of my pile has just died. I got through Moria for the first time ever and ended up in the town of Khazad Dum. But I couldn't figure out how to get back out into the world proper? I tried recall but that took me back to Moria 50, and recalling out took me back to Khazad Dum.

Anyway, I figured I'd try the stairs in town and see if that helped. That didn't work out so well. Fought my way (!speed, !mana, and lots of manathrust) to within two steps of the stairs, then some prick summoned a bunch of Wyrms (or something - big Ds a lot tougher than Ancient Dragons) and they killed me. but as a Necromancer I had my 2nd chance. Chain summonning demons were useful as I got myself 37 of my required 49 kills, then a big blue U blatted me in one hit. Would it have helped? or is it just a normal house quest?

Although now that I think of it I probably needed to walk back into Moria, and then recall out from there didn't I, that would have taken me back to my last recall spot in Bree. Doh. I guess thats what I should have done.

Edit: Bugger - Looking at my dump I completely forgot about the "Mass Genocide" artifact. Would that have worked on all the Demons? I had only ever used it twice before - when getting mobbed by hounds.

A scroll of Reset Recall would get you back to the world, reset to the top level of moria then just walk out.

A nuisance, isn't it. I've a feeling even to reset recall and walk out of the top level of e.g. Barrow Downs doesn't work, because you just emerge in you-know-where. Probability travel is the biz for Moria, closely followed by a climbing set or avoidance - can have towns though, yippee

The house quest there is a bit of a shock if you don't expect it, right enough - amn't sure if genocide will work, is it a 'special level' in that context ?

edit ... ahh, so reset recall does work it seems

Genocide gets rid of the monsters on the Gondolin and Lothlorien house quests. On the other hand you don't get credit for completing them.

I haven't tried it in Khazad Dum. I never bother with it any more- who wants a house that is next to impossible to get in and out of?

Would it be worth getting if you had the rod of home summoning?

But its there...

(Might have something to do with why I die a lot. I do like to thoroughly clean out levels, and when I run away, I always come back for at least a 2nd attempt.)

Only if you plan to never visit another town for the rest of the game.
The Rod opens a portal to your home in the last town you visited (IIRC it gives you homes in the levels of dungeon towns as well)

It certainly does, those bound for an ultra-ending note well. You leave all your consumables at home e.g. Cure Insanity and *Healing* potions, you leave behind the nifty cloak you'll swop in when this one goes out of fashion, you store the non-ego base item for making something special - because all these things can be picked up with a wave of your hand, can't they. Then you come across a town in the nether realm and Frustration, the little-mentioned fifth horseman of the apocalypse, just dropped in for dinner.

Nope that didn't work. Just made it through for the 2nd time ever and the recall idea (above) just took me back to the mountains. So I guess I just gotta find a reset recall or slog my way back up. Bummer

Yep, thats right. Just tried that, walking up from the barrow downs put me back in the mountains. So do I have to climb all the way though moria? Or do I need to reset recall somewhere else (like Moria Lev 30 - top). Man this does kind of suck.

Edit: Got out by walking all the way back. Couple of good shafts sped things up.

Yes, you recall to the top of Moria and get out.
