Went to void with a hobbit sorceror with no +life armor (~450 HP)... and no genocide. High stealth, lots of stone prisons, banishment, good spell-binder discipline, and massive essence of speed took me to Tiki's level. I killed her, got the flame and... oops. Bug. Read some spoilers, figure I can't win, decide cheating is acceptable (it's a bug, right?). Kill the window without saving, walk back from my last save point (top of nether realm), save, kill Tiki again. ID the mage staff... must've done something wrong, it still didn't work. Kill window and reload. Kill Tiki again. Reach for a mage staff she dropped and-- hounds smack me with lots of nether balls. I die. Come back as undead, wander in search of monsters to kill, take a hit from the environment, and-- requiescat.

Stupid bugs. I was doing great till then.

one day

#17 Post by Arioch_Arioch »

I can only pray that one day I get far enough in this darn game to be just as maddeningly frustrated, depressed, and stressed as everyone else who has gone into the void only to be handed an ignoble death. Bravo to those who are already there though. Interestingly, judging from the shape of the poll.... I'm in the majority  One day I'll be elite....one day....

I have challenged the imposter, but he / she / it has not come forth.

Seems like someone talks the talk, but can't walk the walk.

Moreover, the imposter has multiplied yet again.

Some creatures should really just grow up.

Lord Dimwit is really the Matrix's Agent Smith...

"I'm going to enoy watching you die, Mr Baggins."

Well maybe the poll should have been more reasonable, and allowed for the fact that more than one reader might be good at this game.

There is also missing an option for those who have killed Morgoth but haven't tried killing Melkor. Maybe I'll just kill Melkor so I can answer this poll.
Stronk is a potent combatant with a terrifying appearance.

Mayfair -- yeah, I didn't realize that until I posted the poll. I was going to cover it in 'died there', but forgot.

Neil -- as Lord Dimwit is sort of acknowledged to be the top player on these forums, I figured he deserved his own category. ;) Besides, I wanted to see how skewed the results would be, given that there's only one Lord Dimwit.

I think "Top Player" has to be reinterpreted as "most masochistic"...

Spectral Hobbit Mimic was one of his, wasn't it?

He wins though, that's the thing.

mmmmm... masochism

#28 Post by Arioch_Arioch »

ah but it is that devoted, nearly religious scale of masochism that gets my respect..... spectral hobbit mimic....wow, I'm still in awe of that one. There was talk of a yeek bard at one time too, IIRC. Now if the Lord managed to pull that off, I'd just have to go out and proselytize. Mmmm spectral yeek bard.....

That's a bit easier than it sounds, unless you're going to disallow summoning and symbiosis.

oh my yes

#30 Post by Arioch_Arioch »

Oh certainly.... sorry, I take for granted that any bard attempt be done without summoning and only using symbiosis for the HP if at all. For instance, I wouldn't fault yeek bardsfor using symbiosis for the hp or attacks as I can't imagine any other way for one to survive.... it certainly wouldn't survive by it's musical ability, but I would try to play symbiosis free with any character that had reasonable hp of its own. Then again, my own particular brand of masochism is to only play humans and more specifically, human bards.

However, for sheer scale and grandeur, I say Lord Dimwit be nominated as the Vala in charge of all things masochistic. Anyone willing to second that?
