I like the idea of having a thread or say 2 or 3 stickies which go in depth about the game, also where theres something that takes pages of explaining you can just link the wiki page.

Im sure this has been discussed before, maybe it was for another roguelike but I remember reading that some thought it was undermining the wiki, personally I dont think so since you could have a copy of the stickys on the wiki as well.

Im looking at it from a newbie perspective but unfortuanatly I feel that the wiki information in some instances, isn't exactly easily accessible; many questions I have had in the past its a nightmare to find info on the wiki in a coherant consise form. (I do realise many wiki contributions are brilliant but really can ionly see good in having a real newbie friendly set of stickys which I am certain will grab much more new members than reffering them to a sprawling wiki when they just want to play and enjoy the game)

Thats my thoughts anyway :)

P.S I see this post is quite old its just I think it was recently posted in plus being new it would be highly useful to have info stickies like what many sites have. As an example the Dwarf fortress site has stickies which have links to youtube video tutorials and if it wasnt for those easily accesible guides I would never have experienced the greatness of dwarf fortress........Just something to ponder! :)

If you look in the Ideas section of the ToME 2.x.x, you'll see that this has already been implemented. There are stickied topics that have the official FAQ on the listed topics and then a discussion on each of the FAQ's where you can submit your own Q&A.
And it was such a good idea...

Has anyone noticed that the wiki has been down for the last few days? Is everything ok there or did something bad happen?

Yes, this is dicussed here: http://forum.t-o-m-e.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22094 and apparently we won't see it up again so a lot of useful info for 2.3.x is lost :-(

The data is not lost...

What is needed is someone to take all of the old wiki and port it across...

Well, migrating from MoinMoin to DokuWiki (which if I understand corrrectly is the idea here) is apparently doable in a somewhat automated way as explained here: http://www.emilsit.net/blog/archives/mi ... -dokuwiki/ Of course, whoever does this probably needs ftp/ssh access to both the old and new wikis.
