Adamantite or Mithril?
I'm preparing for my first dive into the Void (already found the Blood of Life; I love precog
). I found the Rod Tip of Home Summoning. It's pretty useful, right? Being able to stockpile a bunch of *Healing* , cure critical insanity, and restore mana potions, as well as miscellaneous utilities has gotta be pretty nice. I tracked down some mithril rods of Istari pretty quickly, but I'm wondering whether I should hold out for an adamantite version. Potion-scumming's probably gonna take a lot of patience, anyway. Should I hold out for it?

Re: Adamantite or Mithril?
The rod tip of home summoning will open the last place you visited...
So if the last place was Bree, all well and good!
But if the last place is a market on some random dungeon level then you will access that! Which means you won't see your stockpile!
So the moral of the story is that whilst it is a good thing to have, you should place no reliance on it!
I don't believe it would make any difference which rod you attached to it...

Yeah. Actually the Void and the Nether Realm aren't as deep as I thought. I figured I could just use it until I hit a dungeon town in the Nether Realm (if I did), but big stacks of *healing* and everything else should probably be fine. I might keep it in case I decide to shift around my gear at some point before it becomes impossible. Also, so using the rod doesn't require mana? It says 75 to cast. On a side note, are non-ego items the only legal base for ultimate weapons? Should I bring a plain old mage staff with me?

Re: Adamantite or Mithril?
you wont use the rod often enough to make a big difference on either adamantite or mithril rods... it does use mana though from the rods.
And yes, only non egos will do sadly. (make sure you turn off the automizer if needed) before you put !k on it (or more if you are feeling particularly scared)

Did I miss something? I can't seem to enter the Void. Going down the stairs doesn't work.
EDIT:
Oh, I guess I just had to hold the button down for a while. Well, I'm now in the Void. Hopefully I'll survive.

Maybe you had Probability Travel on.Ithulta wrote:Did I miss something? I can't seem to enter the Void. Going down the stairs doesn't work.

Don't stop to smell the roses. Then unless you've a ridiculous amount of HP you need to treat your interview with Melkor mostly as a strategy problem, particularly if you've been using Paraquat on the roses until then - because he's just one of your problems, e.g. a levelled Black Reaver will just look in your general direction and mutter "die now, please" then wander off with a look of "so what was all the fuss about ?"

Re: Adamantite or Mithril?
My approach (with successful Void divers) has been to cast Genocide whenever I am in sight of any monster. That, combined with Heal, Regeneration, Essence of Speed, and lots of stair scumming usually works.
The other approaches that I have tried involve dying rapidly.

Re: Adamantite or Mithril?
That's basically what I'm doing. Kinda cheesy, but very effective. I don't know how non-sorcerers make it through. Stair scumming has been pretty much unnecessary, though. I don't think I've gone back up the stairs at all.My approach (with successful Void divers) has been to cast Genocide whenever I am in sight of any monster. Re: Adamantite or Mithril?
Summoners apparently do fine also. The first several successful Void divers posted all used that approach. An army of level 150 GWoP can handle anything the Void can dish out.
I usually play with unusual rooms on with sorcerors, so it can take forever to find the stairs if the only one is inside one of the more complex vaults. It makes it much easier to take on Melkor if there are some permanent walls available.

Same, it's fun to level a sorcerer to 25 or so in the wilderness, then do the library quest for a few important utility spells (slow monster is really useful for this), then rob every tome from vaults in the sand lair, and finally wander around the rest of the game leveling quickly and collecting cool stuff in vaults.I usually play with unusual rooms on with sorcerors
Re: Adamantite or Mithril?
Argh! I can say with confidence that this dungeon town level I'm in has no up staircase. I limited all los obstructions and scoured the entire level. I believe I heard this happened to someone before, and someone suggested it was because there was recaller's shop on the level. There isn't one on this level but there definitely aren't any up staircases.
Re: Adamantite or Mithril?
Looking at the source code, Melkor would probably instakill me even when I have full health and heroism and even though I've got the greater ration of health and +40% to life armor. Am I just supposed to hope to god he doesn't cast that?
Re: Adamantite or Mithril?
Wow. I got lucky. He didn't even cast it once. The blood of life didn't even come into play. I finally got an ultimate win. He just kept walking toward me like an idiot. Occasionally he breathed disintegration, cast a chaos ball, or some such thing, but never BA_MANA. Phew
.

Re: Adamantite or Mithril?
Er, my savefile just randomly corrupted itself somehow. I just noticed the teleport power phasing gave, and on immediately after using it, I tried to save, causing the game to crash. Now I am unable to open that savefile. I already posted the char, but I'd like to still be able to access him to play around a bit.
