Demonblade of Gothmog and Luck

Finally got a Demonologist going OK (almost finished moria).
Have found the demonblade of gothmog and am considering wielding it. The only bad thing appears to be -20 luck. (well I'm not real fond of chaotic effects either, but can live with them). Unfotunately have had no luck finding any other good demonblades (I'm to impatient to shop scum on the 2 dungeon towns I've found so far).

So what is luck for? The only thing I have found in my reading is that it affects you chance of getting a death fate. Does it also affect level generation? Items/baddies etc?

I believe the spoilers section of the in-game documentation has a page on luck, including what it does and which artifacts provide it. Unfortunately, I can't check at the moment as I'm at work and our IT overlords won't let me

What I can say is that when I find that weapon as a Demonologist, I wield it and never look back.

you could also just use the demonblade in combat and just wear a normal one otherwise.

I find that fates generally come wandering through levels or in the wilderness, so if it isnt wielded it shouldnt be a problem. However, your main problem will be, if/when the other 2 show up... as a set they provide some nice bonuses, and I dont find -20 luck to be that bad. By then your character wouldnt have much to fear of death fates though (at least it shouldnt)

death fates are really just hard levels with leveled monsters that you have to kill or die instead. If you have stone prison or any LOS disruptor, it makes the levels easier.

Used it for the Gondolin quest where you fight the trolls. Only the 2nd time I ever finished it - lots of "Demon Field"s and melee.
But I think I might leave it at home and stick with "Vorpal Blade" for the moment. It does slightly more damage without the demonblade spell bonus (but I only have enough mana to case that 2 or 3 times). Tend to be playing as a bit of a summoner at the moment any way.

Ah, if you also have the Vorpal Blade, that changes things a bit Probably my second favourite likely-to-drop weapon, after Mormegil.

Re Death fates; I'm usually pretty glad to see them, as they're easy to avoid and you get a cool 'cheated death' tag on your character sheet when you go back and complete them at L50 Of course, they're also an indication that your character may be inherently unlucky...
