I've been experimenting with new characters, and I've found one that I really like. A Vampire Dwarf Axemaster is lethal, add Manwe as your god and your ready to declare jihad on angband. He has hold life, dark, cold, poison, blind, nether resists. And he is in pretty good shape with the skill mods. I was doing really good until I was surrounded by baby blue dragons on a barrow down princess quest and destroyed. (I never carry any ways to teleport on barrow down, makes more fun). I always play with self-imposed rules.

On the same note of great characters, a Hobbit Ranger is surprisingly good. As long as you don't mind using slings.
