What do you think about the alchemist class

It's a viable class if somewhat easy to play.

It's far too easy to play to bother. (I've won with an alchemist)

Alchemist feelings poll

#1 Post by Rawel »

Hmm is it just me or is there a rather great anti-alchemist sentiment here? It seems to me that most people here feel that the alchemist is so easy and boring that it's not worth playing. Now I am not saying that an alchemist is a hard char to play but it's not much easier then some of the others specifically well built sorcerors or summoners.

Excluding the alchemists that have used at least one of the bugs (ie. more then two egos or overflow of exp for artifacts) i think there is only five winners without bugs abuse and one *Winner* on oook. Now that's much less then any other class I checked. It might offcourse be that they are so easy no one bothers to play them.

Anyhow i would really like to hear the opinion of the masses on this one.

It doesn't bother me that alchemists are easy (I've killed Melkor with a Lygrog sorceror and overall like sorcerors very much). What bothers me is the tedium of essences. Alchemist is a class that is all about micromanagement and scumming. Rabbit feet are a notorious example.

And the we have those worthless essences littering dungeon for all the other classes...

I don't know that it's actually an easy class. In *bands generally difficulty can be translated to tedium by a sufficiently cautious play style. Alchemists are easy but tedious, which is exactly the same as, say, an archer who spends all his time town scumming for broken bones to make nifty ammo out of. It's boring as watching grass dry but when you're done you have an overpowered charachter. The difference between an alchemist and an archer is that the archer doesn't *have* to spend 30 hours scumming for broken sticks.

or the archer goes to lothlorien and the alchemist goes to maggot's mushroom farm. still have never seen boots of elvenkind drop in game although they are easy for alchemists to make. although it is fun to make 250d250 weapons and one-round kills of morgoth.

part of it (though certainly not the entire picture) is that the extremely high cool factor of some of the stuff alchemists can do leads to an illusion, from the stories about them, that they'r much easier than they actually are, leading many to shun them without giving them a chance.

personally, i find them to much bother to be easily played. (winning should be a challenge; playing should not)
the syntax and mechanics for how to use their abilities are way too unclear in the current version. the old alchemists were a lot easier to figure out, at least. while i agree they needed a reworking, i'v not yet seen any benefit from the one they got. before, their abilities were poorly thought out, but at least i could figure out how to use them.

And what's the point of so much boring work just to achieve a character that impresses no one--not even yourself!
