What's a good place to look for climbing?

#1 Post by Ithulta »

One fairly successful (but sadly deceased :() character of mine managed to find the dwarven pick of erebor (in the sandworm lair, I think). I had some other nice properties, but climbing came in really handy. It made taking down some pretty tough monsters much easier. GWoP just summoned some annoying great wyrm of foo? No problem, just stone prison him for later, retreat into the mountains, and switch places with the nasty! Unfortunately, I've only found a source of climbing one other time (a climbing set from the black market). What's a good place to find some source of climbing? Looking at the edit files the pick's not too rare (lower than Holcolleth, Colluin, and Collanon, which I find all the time in the lair), and a depth of 50 isn't much of a problem when you've got a bunch of greater vaults at lvl 30 of the lair, but I'm doubtful as to whether I'd be able to find a specific artifact. What would be good place to hunt for a source of climbing with a mid-level (high 20s to low 30s clvl) sorcerer?

Climbing sets turn up in the Black Markets on occasion. Other than that, I almost always find the Mattock of Nain, and there are a couple of pairs of artifact footwear that aren't too rare. If you get a checkerboard vault in the Sandworm Lair you have a good chance to get one of these. Climbing sets also show up in deep dungeons fairly often.

Expecting to get climbing gear by level 30 seems a bit optimistic to me. I generally find a set in the black market or in the dungeon sometime in early-mid Mordor. I don't think they're really worth searching specifically for, though.

It's not that optimistic when you've got ironman_rooms on :D. I found the metal shod boots of Thror around the time I was hoping to find something like 'em. Climbing and +3 to STR, CON, and speed! Not bad. They were, and still are, quite useful.

Ought to be some in town in bottom of Moria.
Long time to get there though (I think?)
Very useful for house in same town because of tons of Balrogs/other Us.
