Not meaning to spam the board but I just killed EOL the Dark Elf and got The Phial of Galdrial and the Anchor of Space and Time. I believe the Anchor is sought after but the desciption is vague and no references anywhere, which should I wear and why?
Thanks for your time.

Re: Phial v Anchor
It prevents all forms of teleportation, both of the player and nearby monsters, and is also the only item in the entire game that provides resistance to the effects of the GF_TIME damage type. That latter is especially valuable, because time does a lot of damage and reduces your stats.
The anchor is also more generally useful for fighting things that like to teleport away, e.g. Trone the Rebel Thunderlord (who also happens to breath time).

Re: Phial v Anchor
Phial has a much larger light radius if I recall correctly. Until you start seeing a lot of teleporters or time breathers the Anchor really isn't all that useful. Once you do though the thing is awesome and was always my preferred end game light source on any character that didn't rely on teleport.

Yeah, dying hurts in roguelikes.
The wands were probably emptied earlier by some monster that drains charges (IIRC Liches will do that).
Re the Nirnaeth Arnoedad quest, I would recommend holding off on that until your character fairly high level. You might have noticed some gray 'P's among the trolls... Those are Hrus, stone giants whose hits cause earthquakes and lots of damage. Going toe-to-toe with them is definitely contraindicated.

Re: Phial v Anchor
Thanks for the advice LordE - I did a fumble quest just before and I was battling against some very strange and powerful monsters, I got too cocky and thought I could handle that quest even though I saw danger level 40ish I think.
My char was gown to about (4) with no way back, but I had a moment of inspiration - had a spare 8 skill points and threw them into Thamataugery hoping for the best... and I honestly thought I was saved cause I *actually* got Area/Wall Creation! (put it down to *luck*) Blasted out a massive wall but there was still monsters right next to me! Argghhhh, threw my last few manathrusts out but this big ass *T* wiped about 150hp and I got a dump screen y/n!!!
That is now the last time I get complacent...
*sure*

Re: Phial v Anchor
Just for the record, anything that grants "resist continuum" reduces damage from TIME attacks. AFAICT that includes:
- The relevant corruption
- Antimagic (with disruption activated)
- The Anchor of Space-Time
- Temporary Time Resistance (tim_res_time). It doesn't seem to be possible to actually achieve this in-game.
- Worshipping Mandos (only applies to Theme)

Wait, Antimagic teleport disruption gives GF_TIME resistance? That doesn't sound like desirable behavior.AnonymousHero wrote:Just for the record, anything that grants "resist continuum" reduces damage from TIME attacks. AFAICT that includes:

(OTOH maybe it is. Time Hounds occur in large groups in ToME, and Unbelievers have limited escape options, so perhaps it gives them a fighting chance.)
Re: Phial v Anchor
By the time my unbelievers are likely to run into time hounds they aren't going to have much trouble with them, resistance or not. One whack with Mormy or whatever I am using as backup and they are history.
Also, I never fight a pack of hounds in the open. With telepathy that is easy to arrange.
