Alright, got the new forum approved by DG.

Now, the big question is, where on the main page should it go?
And it was such a good idea...

At the very top... In the General section

Makes it look friendly, is an obvious entry point for newbies and so on.

I realise that this will mean Announcements will no longer be at the top and mean a period of adjustment for the older hands but still.

I agree with Madmonk that it needs to be at the top, but I would put it at the top of the Tome section, not General. It is specific to Tome and has nothing to do with the engine or TomeNet.

One of the reason's I suggested in the General section was so that if the TomeNet enthusiasts wanted to they could add in bits.

The T-Engine people could also add in bits as well.

At the end of the day I am pleased we have approval and ultimately as long as there is a Welcome section I don't mind where it goes.

Jon.

Alright, the new forum is up.

All I need now are suggestions.

I need links, write ups, anything that you guys think will serve those who are new to the site well.

Please don't post them in the forum, since I'm locking it down for the moment, until we get everything together. If you have links to topics that you'd like to submit, go ahead and post them here. If you have something that hasn't quite been touched on in a post, or is spread through many posts and would like to take the time to write it up in a clearly-written, well thought-out post, please PM that to me. I don't want this thread cluttered.

I'll give you guys a few weeks to come up with what you want in this forum.
And it was such a good idea...

1) The Vista display problem that has everybody puzzled, confused and irritated.
2) New User's post here
3) Forum Etiquette, that is try and post in the correct place and pointers to help.
4) A link to the Wiki.
5) A link to ook for character dumps.
6) Beginner's strategy - a distillation of what is in the strategy section...
7) Anything else I can't think of... (lots and lots)

[Edit]Knew I had forgotten things...
A note on Macros
A note on Tactics
A FAQ on commonly raised topics (fonts, displays, Vista, etc)
A search function hint...

[2nd Edit] I forgot to add that I am happy to help edit anything - I used to be a copy editor in a past life! Let me know if you want me to help or if you want me to write something!
Regards

Jon.

Putting action to words...

I have taken the beginner's strategy guide (from the strategy section) and coupled it all together. Put headings in and so on.

If you would like a copy of it so that you can critique it and make it better then PM me and I will send it to you.

Things to do:

Credits
Standardise tone
Standardise approach.

Might want to adjust the wording of the forum temporarily since it currently says that all new users must post there, despite its being locked.

Also it would be nice to have instructions to install on Linux, maybe with special instructions for the newbie distros like Ubuntu and OpenSUSE.

I agree fully, I'm new to linux and still can't figure it out, so I play off vista...
(my distro is Mint which is roughly based off Ubuntu)

I'll give it more thought and possibly post more later

@madmonk: Yeah, go ahead and pm it to me.

@everyone else: Fantastic ideas all. Now all I need is links to threads where this information is stored or someone to give me a writeup.

In case anyone is wondering why I'm not doing this myself, I'm getting married in a week, so I'm under a considerable amount of stress. Also, there's a lot of what you guys put down that I don't know the first thing about. Like installing on Linux. I barely know how to operate Linux much less install a program such as ToME on it.

Anyway, thanks for all the help you guys. I'll be sure to mention anyone who contributes to this in a credits post of some kind.
And it was such a good idea...

Done! I just sent it to you.

Have a fantastic Wedding Day and Honeymoon (the most important bit)!
