I use what seems to be a fairly traditional top three - main (centre view on player turned on), messages, visible monsters.
Main has view centred on the player and is 10x20 or 12x24(?). The messages screen lets me automatically clear -more- prompts and play faster. The visible monsters screen allows constant monitoring that I can't do with 'l'.
My *biggest* issue with the interface is the moving around of letters associated with my inventory and 'm'/'U' skills (see http://wiki.t-o-m-e.net/IdeaArchive_2fI ... Management).
Using inscriptions and @Name just to maintain constant labels is a pathetically inefficient way of doing it. I would strongly consider Inven and Equip with the current interface if space permitted, to see what letter belongs to what item.
How many ToME window do you use ?

Main only. I cut my roguelike-playing teeth on Nethack, which doesn't give the option of anything else, so I have a longstanding habit of using the relevant commands when I want to look at things like inventory or message history (and of not looking away from the main window, to the point that I'll miss messages if I'm chatting with someone while playing).
In conclusion, I need to pound my head repeatedly with blunt objects until I stop talking like this. --Professor_Scissors
