Usually just ToME. On rare occasions I play Master of Magic, but that gets boring quickly - once you know all the tricks it's just not challenging.

Lets see. I play both PC and console games other than T.O.M.E.

Currently, with the XBOX, I've been playing lots and lots of Soul Calibur II. With the PS2, I've been playing Madden pretty much non-stop since I bought the PS2 like 4 months ago. I picked up FIFA04, but the latest game is pretty much crap.

For the PC, I've got Call of Duty, Morrowind, and Neverwinter Nights. I used to put in a lot of time on Sid Mier's Gettysburg, but I long since lost my copy. I also used to play lots of Diablo II, but when you go out of town for the summer and don't have a broadband connection, it sucks when you relog onto Battlenet and all your favorite characters are gone. I liked the Civilization series until I bought Civ3 and learned that you have to buy the expansion set to play online.
Bart: Mr. Hutz when I grow up I want to be a lawyer just like you.
Hutz: Good for you, son. If there's one thing America needs, it's more lawyers. Can you imagine a world without lawyers?

Pretty much a hardcore gamer here, but only play ToME every once in a while. Right now playing... lessee.. ToME, ADOM, Morrowind, C&C: Generals and Pirates of the Caribbean (or rather, a modified version of Pirates called Build 10.1, which I recommend to anyone who played and loved games like High Seas Trader and Sid Meier's Pirates!).

I have a love/hate relationship with ToME. Unlike most other roguelikes, which are games I find of adequate difficulty but in the end a bit too bland, ToME is extremely difficult (never got a character past 26) and yet very engaging. It's mostly a coffee-break game.

Sometimes I'm under the impression that there is some kind of 'cold war' between Nethack and Angband players. Meanwhile I love both and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one (waves to Zizzo). Actually Nethack was my first roguelike which I played for almost 5 years (2 winners). Every once in a while I tried Angband (also Adom) but never got really in. Until the day were I had a strange dream (but that's another story) which led me directly into ToME. And suddenly my interest was awoken for Vanilla and other variants. Currently I have to dwarven warriors running, one in Vanilla and one in Hengband. Oangband also looks very attractive to me and it's on my 'want-to-play-soon list'.
I'm probably back to ToME when 3.0 is out...

But my all time favourite is and will be chess. Unfortunately time is not my friend: I'm 47 now and only got one life, that are at least 3 to few for all that wonderful games around. ;-)

It's only RPG's for me. Mainly ToME, Adom, Nethack, Hengband (and few other Angband variants), Dungeon Crawl. Also Baldur's Gate series, Morrowind and stuff..
Usually I don't play that much, but sometimes I get addicted (this week: ToME 60% / Sleep 40%) :)
Stronk is a potent combatant with a terrifying appearance.

ToME is about 3/4 of my gaming now. Sometimes an old sidescroller like Ferazel's Wand, or another roguelike will catch my attention, and ToME gets put on hold. Having recently given up Diablo II, I've got a bit more time for ToME now.

I used to play all sorts of things, but nowadays I rarely play anything that couldn't be run on a 486. I play roguelikes a lot, natch. I'm into my what, sixth year on Aardwolf MUD (Where I'm known as Wolfe, hence the oh-so-amusing name on here). I adore the classic game emulators like MAME and zSNES. Seeing stuff on remakes.org from my childhood makes me quiver. I would play Morrowind, if I could get it to run for more than 30 seconds on this POS computer. ;P

ADOM? I loved ADOM. Gets kinda samey. I'd rather see the work going into JADE.

Other stuff: Civ, Master of Orion II (III was a travesty), occasionally Worms or Gunbound, if I'm in the mood to blow people up.

I used to be quite into Nethack, and went through an ADoM phase for a while until a lot of the secrets came out (Trident of the Red Rooster, anyone?).

They're still good games -- I think most of the "rivalry" between Nethack and Angband is due to newbies who suggest changing one of the two to make it more like the other. Folks who have built up an understanding of one game don't usually want it to turn into a clone of a different game. "Hey, Monopoly would be cooler if we could use poker chips instead of paper money ... and deal out the property cards to all the players ... and bet on who has the better combinations! And let's get rid of this 'rolling dice and moving around the board' part, it's tedious!" Even if you like both Monopoly and poker, that doesn't sound like such a great idea ....

Nethack is a game full of, well, hacks and tricks. That's why they added the Sokoban levels -- it follows naturally from the Nethack character's ability to push boulders around, and it's a clever hack. (So, too, is the fact that you're allowed to cheat at the Sokoban mini-game, but you lose luck points for doing so, as I recall.) But Nethack's theme is more or less nonexistent; hence the archaeologists and Discworld tourists and nurses and oracles and so on.

ADoM is akin to ToME in being basically a single fixed map and set of main quests. It has some extra variability in character generation, in birth signs. The realistic skill system -- you gain weapon skills by practicing with a given weapon, not just by gaining levels or spending points -- is also pretty neat. But it's telling a very different story from ToME, and many of its features fit with that story and not ToME's.

ToME has a massively developed magic system, far and away moreso than ADoM or Nethack -- though there might be some comparison to Cthangband. (Look it up -- the interface is utterly primitive compared to ToME's but the skill system is pretty neat.) With each version, ToME also moves closer to a theme rather than further away, which is pretty darned unique.

:) I'm still lured by the legends of ADoM... The third quest of Kherab... or question: is there anything down there in the infinity?
And the small smacks and secrets you can find throughout the game... it is very neat.

couldn' agree more! i think it's stupid peolpe try to make so many things look alike (probably just to make it easier for themselves). there's a certain dignity to each and every game, where it gets ugly to mix 'em up. i've recntly started playing poker in addition (to your question from the beginning, Lord Dimwit  ) and wouldn't want to see people pseudo playing poker (edited by yottle to remove link).
well. whatever, hopefully didn't make too big a fuss about it

by the way, i'm pretty impressed with your knowledge :D

Well, since somebody revived this thread from death...

I've been into *bands forever. Moria eons ago (I'm 31 in a few days), and more recently I played the zangband-> hengband -> entroband route. I've pretty much beaten each game I have played, and just go play it again a year or two later (a lot). Unless another variant catches my attention.

Tome irritated me the first time I looked at it, but I tried it again when a friend of mine told me about lost souls he was playing, and I haven't turned back.

Had my first two winners recently, I'm actually in the middle of the nether realm with my second now, and I love the game. Though I think this will be my last (?) void diver. I find the void and nether realm exceedingly boring and annoying at the same time. But the eternity magestaff and ring of phasing are fun. I have 5k mana, which I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with.

My first introduction into Bands was animeband, which my brother pointed to me because he thought I'd like it. I ran into Mangband on a google search after that. Then noticed Tomenet had more players online and played that. That naturally led into the origional Tome, Which I have to say has a lot more than tomenet.
Never played NetHack or most other rogue-likes.

I play other games mostly, I just got into this like a month ago.
I don't want to say it's my whole life though...

My first ASCII was ADOM (Ancient Domains of Mystery). While not a true *band, it's very *band-like.
My first *band was DrAngband (Dragon Angband) and it's still my favorite (dragon PCs FTW!)
Got directed to ToME by a friend when he found me mucking about in DrAng's source code doing fun stuff.
Same friend later directed me towards Dwarf Fortress. Not a *band in the slightes, but really fun (it's kind of a ME type ASCII SimCity).

I used to be addicted to nethack and play it all the time
I broke that addiction by picking up slashem, which I played a bit less
I broke my slashem addiction by starting TOME!

I don't play TOME that often though. I'm in high school and I am taking a computer science class, and that class is so lame. It is like an off period except you can't leave, you have to play computer games :D

So I play TOME for about 45 minutes every school day during that period. On weekends I try not to play too much but it is about the same.
