Although it may be worth noting (as a point of interest) that the most ancient form of the word - particularly the Quenya Atani - was a term used for the whole race of men.

What I find strange is that everyone hates Legolas... Legolas I thought was over the top, but attracted lots of female viewers, so as a commercial stand point, that was the reason for his huge amounts of screen time. That is also why Arwen's screentime was also maxxed. To draw females to the movie....

I always liked the combat system in Rolemaster / Middle Earth Role Playing. Although it used a whole multitude of tables, which could kind of slow things down until you got used to it, it had an excellent critical hit system. The majority of damage in combat was still handled through hit points, but...

I'm definitely for more classes and subclasses - they provide greater freedom to have the type of character I want to have.

I love the Reaper and Spy ideas mentioned previously - I'd certainly give both of them a go.. :)

I have to say, I agree with our frequently posting guest when he/she said that which variant is best depends upon the tastes of the individual player. I personally voted for ToME in the poll, because I enjoy it more than classic. That's not to say it's better - just that I like it more. IMHO, as lon...

And as a last comment, having damage increases the spell failure. So I think they have covered that area. It's already kind of dumb to have to carry spellbooks around and if you have to memorize spells before casting (which is a really idiotic concept) I'm quitting tome :( Absolutely! As much as I ...

I'm with Balrog.. on this - I think D&D is a fabulous game, as long as you're playing with the right group of people; but then, I would say the same thing about a lot of other RPGs. One of my favourites is a game called Tunnels and Trolls - the system itself is.. basic .. to say the least, but b...

Exactly... :) I just figure everyone's entitled to their opinion. I don't look down on anyone for not liking the films; and I hope no-one thinks badly of me for taking the opposite view. As for me, I simply chose to enjoy some well-made films based on someone's interpretation of a story that I think...

Further, I think the music scores were absolutely stunning; particularly the piece, 'The White Tree' from ROTK - it's the music that was playing while the beacons were being lit...

I have to say, I loved all the movies - the extended versions especially, which cater more for the hardcore Tolkien fans like myself. Okay, they weren't entirely true to the books, but then, did they necessarily need to be in order to be good films in their own right? I can't help but think that no ...

26, here.

I've always said I'm a firm believer that you're as old as you feel. Perhaps I should revise that philosophy to, 'you're as old as the Rogue-like to which you first sold your soul', which would thus make me 12 years old, and a child of UMoria...

Although I haven't completed ToME yet (only been playing seriously for a week or so, now), I have won a few other Angband variants using just one window. It does take patience, but I guess that's just how I play - the extra key-presses have long since become so habitual as to go all but unnoticed. I...
