Re: Mimicry
It is possible (although very rare) for the game to generate a cloak that mimics a failed mimicry attempt. Morphic oils of the same failed mimicry shape can sometimes be found at the top of the Barrow Downs.

Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
the xp gain for stealing is indeed from monsters and not stores. The amount of xp depends on the weight of the item stolen. My method was to get a co-aligned eagle to kill mature dragons until one left a corpse. Carry the corpse back to Bree and try to get a blubbering idiot to go down the short dea...

Re: Wraparound bug with piety traps?
how many times did you have to activate the trap in order for your piety to wrap around to positive?
There used to be a bug several versions (and years) ago where one of the two piety traps actually increased your piety instead of subtracting from it, but that was fixed.

Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
well after a couple hours I now have a level 50 orc rogue. 0 kills listed by game. I might start over and change to an orc assassin, but that would require a lot more patience. I thought my strategy would work with any character, but apparently only rogues gain xp from stealing. The only piety gain ...

Re: Looking for Wastrel's guide to trapping and his DitL.
Well, I didn't keep a copy; so I guess it's gone forever. Here's my adlib Guide to trapping v2.0: 1) find/wish for a well hidden [bolt/arrow/catapult/fumes] trap set for evil. Device/magic traps aren't really all that powerful. Fumes traps + detonation/death/ruination potions can be fun, but you can...

Where do you like to gain stats?
Your character has made it to level 30, finished Eol, Uvatha, and cleared mirkwood of spiders, but stats haven't been maxed yet with potions. Where do you like to hunt for potions? My latest favorite if I have telepathy is to go up and down stairs in the Maze looking for Dark Elf Warlocks. A pack of...

I remember asking where to put skill points as a mage, back when I first started playing. Everyone told me to play a sorceror instead, due to the superior skill modifiers. As you say though, your secret is safe now :) Somehow, I failed to notice this. I guess I've been playing melee characters too ...

went back and tried what I was thinking of... I think there was a version where potions exploding on the ground affected monsters... (at least that was what I got out of wastrels (sp?) traps only win, so I may be wrong) hence the scumming potions from the mining shop... but yeah... this is a rabbit...

Trivia for you newbies: When this thread was first posted, it was very easy to step onto a known trap. Say thank you to the developers the next time you get a message preventing you from walking onto a trap. Now you must purposely use the 'blunder' command (or try to disarm) in order to step onto a ...

Do randarts meet the requirement of needing to find an artifact with a flag before you can add it? I think so, since I can't think of any truearts that have the multiply life flag. But it seemed like there was some inconsistency with my last alchemist. I wasn't sure though, since I seldom play alche...

Actually I've only attempted the void maybe 4 times. Most of my winners are actually too wimpy for the void. The first time was simply dying from not knowing how to deal with the void. The second time was with an antimagic character who also used traps and ironman rooms. Killed Tiki with a trap. Die...

are you talking about using a savefile to restore a character after they died? It's been years since I did that, but I believe I had to also change a line of text in some other file each time I wanted to restore a character. The game designers frown on that sort of thing and try not to make it too e...

Congratulations! :) I am currently making a character with the plan do do it without genocide, summoning, stairscumming or LOS-breaking. Will see if it works  My congratulations also! If Wastrel can get through under the conditions mentioned I will be impressed. The only characters I have tak...
