I fixed my problem.
I changed the text in resolution.cfg from full screen to Windowed.... And, boom, it works now.

It goes blank on launch before I’m able to select anything. When I launch (from either Steam or standalone), the screen goes to black background, a blank white box briefly appears, then the mouse arrow changes to the game cursor, then the music starts. I deleted the resolution.cfg file, but this didn't help at all.

Hi, I have no problems playing the game via Steam on my desktop PC. However, when I launch the game on my laptop via Steam or via the direct download version, I get only a black blank screen, cursor, and background music.
