Topic: Merge some magic schools..

To summerize Tachyon, the current schools are balanced so the standard mage will need so many skill points to get a good amount of spells. To combine schools will make the game easier for mages; to separate schools will make the game harder. Of course, you still can change the schools, but in order ...

Or:
To buy an entirely new skill costs 10 skill points or so. Doing this allows access to the skill at regular rates. When you start the game, you get to pick 2 or 3 skills to start with.

The main one-class problem is skills like symbois that only need one skill point to be useful. Characters in this one-class system would stock up on those, along with one major class. Fix that problem (in a module) and we'll see.

The other alternative is to give quests at level 10, 20 ,30,40 and 50.

That would allow you to head out immediately, especially if restrictions were placed on the location. (within 10 squares of Bree for the first, within 20 squares for the second, and so on.)

What needs to be considered here is when the quest is given at level 2. You certainly would have trouble finding the temple, let alone surviving. The penalty for missing the relic sounds good, though.

3. A third module for mostly original material which isn't appropriate in either a Tolkienian or a Norse setting. (Some of my creations currently testing in T-Plus, will most likely end up here: the Angel and Teddy-bear races, the artifacts which don't draw on a pre-existing mythos or another autho...

Idea: all spells can be casted without books, but if a book is in the inventory, (Or perhaps an inventory slot?) the spell power is increased. Compensate by decreasing the bookless level of spells. The books might be something like this:
A spellbook of teleport (+5)

A better idea, I think, would be to randomize it somewhat. Each monster has a chance of dropping an armor or weapon type dependent on its body slots. This way, any orc killed has a chance of dropping a random weapon and a piece of armor, whereas dragons would be more likely to drop rings. Ettins mi...

Some kind of partial identification would be necessary... Maybe like this? a) it's a weapon, and it's a sword or a polearm (ahem, I'm not going there! ) or whatever, b) it's armor, gloves, or helm, etc, c) a wand, d) a Red Book (e.g. a junkart), or whatever.... So, if I'm reading you right, you're ...

As a suggestion for shrinking Angband dungeon: Keep it the same size, but split it into 2 sections. The outer section covers ten or twenty levels, and has a boss of its own. (Can't think of a good candidate for this job, though.) After killing him, the inner sanctrum of Morgoth opens up for explorat...

Alright, big problem. I've been trying to get TomeNET to run (the windows version) and for some bizarre reason, it both fails to find the metaserver and won't connect anywhere I've read about. Help? Please? Running the windows version, you may wish to move the directory. (C:\tomenet, for example.)
