ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I play 1.7.6 on Linux. I start a temporal warden character, accept the initial quest, kill the weaver queen and the temporal defiler. The quest is finished and I get the next one, but enemies are still arriving from the edge of the screen and I still have the extra HP that I got to fight the tempora...

I am currently using 1.5.7. In some previous version (I don't remember exactly which), when I hovered over a piece of equipment in my inventory, it showed a comparison to the equipment I am currently wearing. For example: Armor: +8 (+1). Now it seems to be gone. Is there a way to bring it back?
