It might be because the ant doesn't have sight of you. Most talents don't do damage if the actor doesn't have sight of the player in some cases... To prevent easy corner snipes with a scouting ahead talent. At least I think so. Most aoe talents let you target around corners just fine. Go grab an ar...

As I mention already in the initial post, this does not seem to be related to the projectile completely missing. You can replicate it in a single tile wide corridor with an enemy 1 tile away.
