This. Yep. That's what happened.

Trying to complete the ruined dungeon puzzle, but there aren't enough clues. I've got 3 signposts that give a total of 4 elements (1+2+1). There's a manablaze area in the level, and I'm guessing that it overwrote one of the signposts. Maybe I've misunderstood and this is all behaving as it was meant...
