I played an Archmage with that ring that splits all damage into Fire/Ice/Lightning/Arcane. Worked pretty well to help with these, though the ring screwed me over when my arcane shield would pop. Ended up killing myself that way.

Is that a bug? I figured it was because it led to a floor that had air. It also gives you a chance to rest before fighting the boss.

Personally, I don't like the change. It means that you can't use your early skills, since you will be leveling too much before you get access to a town. I got the Voidstar, and after trying to move the talent to a different location on the bar, I kept getting lua errors. Even unintalling the addon didn't fix it, so I just scrapped the character and started a new one. Would look forward to this addon when it doesn't cause those errors though.

Alternate Zones and Item Tiers
Do alternate zones affect the tiers of items that drop? Twice now when playing an archmage I've gotten the alternate Trollmire, and both times I noticed that it was dropping up to tier 3 items. I'm going to the Trollmire right after the beginning Archmage area.

Honestly, it sounds like what you really want is to be able to tag an item as
"locked", so that you can't sell it without unlocking the item first.
