Re: Celestial/Light… what's the big deal?

Providence is good enough to make the tree worth it on non-mages, and Bathe In Light is strong enough to be useful with mediocre spellpower as well. Status is one of the most dangerous things in the game (along with burst damage), and Providence is one of the very few ways to heal several status eff...

Re: wWhy do I keep dying!!? :)

Whenever you meet a rare (or a boss/horror you don't know), right-click it and select "Inspect". The last page in particular gives you the full list of the monster's talents with complete descriptions, including how much damage it will do to you (plus/minus your resistances). Each rare is ...

Re: WTF is going on? Grand Corruptor didn't propose an allia

The Light tree is by far the better option, in my opinion. Providence alone is usually enough to make the tree worth it, but as an undead Solipsist you really want some extra shielding and healing, and Light provides both (especially now that Bathe in Light was buffed to ridiculous levels). A fire o...

Re: WTF is going on? Grand Corruptor didn't propose an allia

I think you only need 20 levels of spell talents rather than 20 different talents, and my Ghoul Solipsist got Corrupted Shell with only 10 permanent points in Stone Alchemy: http://te4.org/characters/121089/tome/533fd979-e5f9-4a68-9d0c-048beba26fe6 I put 3 more points in that tree for the fight agai...

Re: First impressions

You were stunned, which halves movement speed, and moving doesn't appear on logs. Given that you were also slowed by 30%, attempting to move could lead to the boss being able to act two or even three times before you can do anything. What most certainly happened is: -You got stunned. First mistake. ...

Re: First impressions

The first mandatory dungeon is Dreadfell - everything before that is optional, the first few quests are only suggestions. You don't need the 1 level you'll gain from any boss, so skipping is always an option. There's also a bunch of other optional dungeons on the world map too if you need extra exp....

Re: First impressions

Again, this is like blaming the RNG for losing to a boarding ship on FTL and claiming that the whole game is just about being lucky enough to never encounter one. Luck can help you for a little while, it can allow you to get a bit farther, but this game is long enough than no one will ever win by re...

Re: First impressions

Of the tier 1 dungeons, Trollmire (except the bonus boss) and Norgos are the easiest on Normal, while scintillating and rhaloren are probably the hardest. The boss of Kor'pul is much easier if you get to him by digging through the wall. Of the tier 2 dungeons, the Maze (if and only if the floor does...

Re: First impressions

You're blaming the RNG for losing to a boarding ship on FTL, and claiming that the whole game is just about being lucky enough to never encounter one. This game is long, much longer than it would seem at first. Luck will determine how early an inexperienced player will stumble on something he doesn'...

Re: Balance Rationale For Gift Of The Pure/Highborn?

Lichdom is pretty much the only thing they do better than other classes, though (and perhaps niche Aether Permeation builds). I'd say they're by a decent margin the weakest non-challenge class, so if anything they badly need a buff.

Re: Stealth-less Rogue

If the target info on the mouseover tooltip doesn't say "looking at you" but "looking [direction]", they don't know exactly where you are and are likely to target the wrong square even without Misdirection. Still, Stealth is a damage tree first and foremost, and the massive boost...

Re: Revised Berserker and Skirmisher Feedback Thread

Pace Yourself certainly feels like a point tax right now. Stamina is so important for Skirmishers and the drawback scales down to so little than there's no reason not to 5/5 it on every character. Replacing it with a very significant movement speed penalty alone would make it a more interesting buil...

Re: Skirmisher 2.0 Idea Thread - Lets Get to Work!

You're right, Counterstrikes on every evade would be very problematic for enemy NPCs. A counterstrike from a successful dodge while Blocking should be However, I do think it is very odd that a Rogue (who typically use Defense, and might get another Defense source from the revamped Mobility/Leather a...

Re: Skirmisher 2.0 Idea Thread - Lets Get to Work!

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand right what you mean by "deflect"? Is it dodging from defense or the flat damage reduction any class gets from Blocking? Most classes can only counterstrike from full blocks, Bulwarks and Sun Paladin can counterstrike from partial blocks, and my suggestion w...

Re: Skirmisher 2.0 Idea Thread - Lets Get to Work!

Rough suggestion sketch for possible buckler rework and a melee status tree, what do you think? I might try coding some to see how well it really works. Buckler Expertise (Passive) Allows shields to be equipped, using Cunning instead of strength as a requirement. You cunningly use your shield to def...
