ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

How does it work, is it an actual unlock, and after unlocking it once you can have it from the beginning with future characters? Or do you only unlock it for that one current character?

Is there any other function to it? Like transferring the achievements from the te4.org account to steam?
