I looked at the system tray and the 'Intel HD Graphics' option that is normally there was nowhere to be found - perhaps the new update to windows 8 operating system disabled the graphics. Anyway, I downloaded the latest driver, the icon reappeared and the game works perfectly now...

Johnnyzero I tried your fix but it didn't work. Also, I too had all video options disabled and still experienced the bizarre lag issue.
