If it works with gloves, maybe it already works and shields and we havnt tried? Otherwise, this is a brilliant idea from a wise dwarf with an amazing beard, probably.

My opinion is that you should save your generic points for some other options, like wild gifts, stone alchemy, conditioning etc. Later in the game survavibility > dmg, so two shield come handy with their incredible defenses and resistances. I figured i'd be swapping out the weapon mastery for that ...

So after seeing this class, a dual shielding arcane nature casting dwarf badass, i immediately had to support the game to get it. Being Dwarf only, this is obviously the best class !
