ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Non steam account. Have both DLCs (I checked my profile page) and Embers works fine.
Both are on the addon directory and are active on the Addon menu inside the game.
However, I can't start a new Ashes character (I know I created one a few years ago before Embers).

I was in level 3 of a farportal and whenever I try to go to level 4 I get stuck in the generating level screen.
