Re: Post your stupid/hilarious death
I got minced by some undead on the character before that, on floor 3, but that one literally left the starting room, turned a corner, and died.

Re: New attack types!
I wouldn't know, heh. I've only played 5 classes so far, and of them only the casters have survived to lvl 20. Maybe since I unlocked poisons my rogue would do better next time.

Re: Allied patrols!
And when not hostile, you should be able to displace them like townsfolk. *grumbles* Get out of the way!
Or randomly enter the "ambush" encounter screen and get a quest as an event. . . like, 1/100 chance when spawning allied patrols.

Re: Post your stupid/hilarious death
I started a character in the infinite dungeon, left the starting room, walked around a corner, got flame breathed by a lvl 37 orc. Respawned and ran back around the corner, stepped around the next corner in my attempt to get away, killed by a lvl 36 orc with some ice attack.
I wasn't happy, lol.

Re: Trainers?
That's a good point. I also think that for most intelligent races it's a good idea to have them occasionally carrying ore. Why? In most medieval-esque fantasy societies, ores were a trade good. Having a bandit carrying some iron or steel makes as much sense as gold, and it could easily be explained ...

Re: [b41] advanced tutorial: range of confuse spell too shor
Continue to confuse them and then convince them that they are a brothel dancer and should be more properly attired, then walk away after they shred their clothing down to some strange skimpy tattered rags.
Well, that's what I'd do in tabletops.

Re: New attack types!
As an interesting alternative, you could add another type that relocates you a'la Disgaea style attacks. Say you have a talent for rogues called "Hit and Run" which lets you target an enemy 1 space away, but then hops you 3 squares back? You could have it show a yellow or green square wher...
Re: Trainers?
So add copper to T1 smelting and Gold to T3, so you can smelt and craft them as well? Not like each tier can only unlock one ore.

Re: Trainers?
I remember playing Moria waaaaaaay back when. . . digging through walls hoping to find gems that I could bring back to town. I mostly recommend crafting because it's a lot of skills one can train with an applicable but not game-breaking effect (if implemented well), and it allows you that extra &quo...

Re: New Race: Undead/Vampire
So would it work better to base them off negative energy since that depletes? To clarify, I didn't think vampires should have a racial innate, so much as the debuff that causes you to lose control should have a very minor one to stay in the flavor (and maybe keep a vampire caster alive) But, that's ...

Re: New Race: Undead/Vampire
That actually sounds almost perfect for the idea I'd suggested regarding the higher bloodlust the higher chance to lose control. The longer you go without using it, the more it decays, the less likelihood you have of losing control. It would, rather than making a corrupted vampire a powerhouse, make...
Re: Trainers?
Sadly, I found ToME in 4.0. I used to play a lot of nethack and adom, Moria, Moraff's Revenge & Moraff's World, and I may have played an earlier version of ToME, but not that I can recall. :? How was it broken? We learn from past mistakes, and what interested me was the article about TE4 saying ...

Re: New Race: Undead/Vampire
My first thought on the bats was that they might be a bit overpowered as they were. You're getting a perfect targeted phase door off of the first point? Plus a bit of damage and potentially significant heal? Okay, the fact that it has to be LOS limits it a bit, but still. (Oh, and having it be one ...
Re: Trainers?
Also... how would you explain having a shop inside Kor'Pul? :) (putting aside the fact that, if you think about it, escorts are pretty much non-sense too, I mean... how the hell did that pathetic little Seer arrive to the 5th level of Dreadfell with all her life intact without even killing/encounte...

I doubt it was intended that Parcae2 get the XP though.
