Re: Only-Arcane Mage short - guide

I haven't played a Higher in awhile, but I don't see how you could hit 25 before Dreadfell, even if you did the Elven Ruins on top of everything else. I usually have trouble hitting 21 with a halfling Alchemist having done everything but possibly the Ruined Dungeon and then leaving the Elven Ruins.

Re: Archmage general guide anywhere?

SageAcrin, why do you only advocate taking 1 flameshock if you are doing fire?

Re: Alchemy for Beginners

The guide looks good. Why are we so focused on an infusion that protects against mental effects? Is it because that category has the most stuff that shuts down the various "I win" buttons the Alchemist? When I was last playing I was just starting to get in my head how all the different pos...

Re: Alchemy for Beginners

Oh, right, I completely spaced out and forgot about Advanced Golemancy when saying that. :| Sorry about that. Anyways, no, that's a fine decision-Advanced Golemancy should be taken at 10 or 20, Celestial/Light at 10/20, then either two inscriptions or one and Fire Alchemy later, or Fire Alchemy->Ad...

Re: Alchemy for Beginners

Catpoints are simple, and there's two builds I know of for them. The first: Get Celestial/Light if you see it, find a good Generic point sink if you don't, for your L10 point. Anything is better than nothing here-Chants and Conditioning are solid backups if you can't get Celestial/Light, as is Divi...

Re: [b38] Hilariously overpowered Archmage

donkatsu, do you unlock wildfire before Meta? Do you beeline for Spellcraft as soon as you unlock the tree (that what I was trying to do with fire/wildfire archmages)? What order do you max fire spells in?

Re: More world randomization

Some of these should be that way but imagine if we had 10 or 20 more dungeons and only five of them could show up in a given game. IMO, that's the way to go. It would spice the game up considerably. Or what if we had quest dungeons tied to unique NPCs? For example, Filio could drop a treasure map l...

Alchemists and Gem Extraction

So I am really enjoying alchemist (but I appear to be making my bombs too awesome at the expensive of Golem Hardiness. Never mind that). However, I feel like the alchemist has re-introduced a significant amount of tedium into inventory management. Now, I love the chest. I have played a number of rog...

Re: [b38] First Win, Skellie Archer

Don't have skeleton unlocked yet, alas. I will prioritize speed then.

One other question: if both a bow and quiver have listed damage do both apply to the arrow?

Re: [b38] First Win, Skellie Archer

@ peacedog: I think Piercing Arrow and Dual Arrows are good investments. Piercing helps you take down enemies in corridors, and Dual costs no stamina to use in addition to dealing extra damage and potentially hitting twice. Steady Shot is good but ultimately it's just damage with no utility. I'd ra...

Re: [b38] First Win, Skellie Archer

I've just started trying archers and I'm having some difficulty with early bosses (from Bill the troll to the one in the Rhaloren Camp). I'm level 11 now I think; it's possible I should have gone straight to maxing steady shot and not doing so is hurting me. I did manage to grab a Thaloren bow in a ...

Re: Assertion of b38 status

Level scumming was deliberately removed from the game. There used to be regenerating enemies and items. It's generally considered a good thing that they were removed. I remember when various *bands all started adding anti-scumming options about a million years ago (back when ToME was Pernband, heh)...

Re: [b38] Dwarf Berzerker first win

I don't find the Berserker AoE ability does enough damage to facilitate the Dreadmaster problem (never mind the issue of whether you are hitting them). Maybe I'm not building quite right or something, but with that ability maxed I can pop it and then I'll never get to a point in the fight again wher...

Re: [b38] Dwarf Berzerker first win

I have some trouble killing tougher monsters in the latter half of Dreadfell on my builds (also some of the bosses/summons in nasty places like the bottom area of the hidden crypt that pops up once you get into the mid 20s; I'm not sure I'm ready to adequately tackle that place, though). It may be I...
