Shouldn't there be instadeath protection on zone entry? I'm sure that was a thing in the original T2. I never code delved ToME myself because I had trouble with Lua's lack of punctuation, but I remember it being a known thing that Runecraft was broken and didn't reward skill investment. [Launcher 3/17/17] Launcher crashes trying to update

The ToME launcher attempts to update and crashes in Windows 10 Home x64 on March 17, 2017. It gets to "unpacking download". The progress bar is at 1 1/8 inch out of 5 5/8 inches when the crash occurs.

Why is something that's obviously causing problems for the game being treated as an immutable fact rather than another problem to fix? If NPC primary stat bonuses are breaking secondary statistic scaling get rid of them and instead give direct bonuses to the secondary statistics that they need and ...

If you're hitting your wall in the Vor Armory you can probably unlock Sun Paladin if you haven't already. Shield builds of SP are very good at not dieing on normal. Just avoid radiant horrors. Your main tanking sustains will heal them and if you turn them off you're just a crappy bulwark.

I'd suggest making the penalties scale as well as the benefits with the number of items. Right now, opening the tree will severely penalize you for no meaningful upside until you're into the mid-game. And eat your generic points on top of it. The penalties need to be negligible for the level 1 curse...
