I have the same issue, also got a 6970 and Windows 7 64bit.

I have the exact same issue, complete freeze, requires a hard reset. Cannot play longer than 10 minutes or so. I am also running Windows 7 64bit, AMD6970, 8GB, I5 2500k @ 4.8Ghz. Maybe its an issue with AMD graphics cards on windows 7? Got the same thing in my stderror: PANIC: unprotected error in c...
