I get the mechanical part, I'm saying that I don't think it's especially interesting, at least not enough to justify starting with the mechanics and THEN building the background. As for shifting characters, there have been suggestions but the ones I remember are for classes/talents rather than races...

I have brought this up myself. With level scaling, even if limited, sometimes it's not an actual penalty. I say sometimes because the player might benefit more from extra levels than the AI (since the player is well, smarter most of the time :) ) That and, outside the ID, there is a level cap anyway...

The way I read it, a 'normal attack' is the kind you do by bumping. If you get a % multiplier from a talent, it doesn't count, does it?

From what I remember halflings got a luck bonus too. Might want to double-check the .lua files to be sure, too.

Note that there ARE penalties for fighting in low/no gravity however, so SOME effect other than air for fighting UW would not be out of place if you go with the 'consistency' angle...though it would make that zone MUCH harder (as the monsters would all not get penalties, while the player would!)

Murdering the lumberjacks should have some evil affect happen to the character, like summons a demon you cant possibly defeat, and then the Eidolon refuses to resurrect you and sends you to Hell! It's not particularly evil compared to doing some other stuff, though. So that would be out of place in...

I could have sworn that it used to be a time limit thing, if you didn't get there quick enough you'd enter to everything being dead and Ben would be gone. I'm probably delusional though. The one 'time limit' of sorts is that, the more lumberjacks survive, the more gold you get from what I remember....
