...aren't these all ideas ... ?? Or: To buy an entirely new skill costs 10 skill points or so. Doing this allows access to the skill at regular rates. When you start the game, you get to pick 2 or 3 skills to start with. Buy those points from NPCs or Uniques with proficiency in desired skill. 'Buy' ...

But if you have killed a gelatinous cube, isn't there a fairly high change you have hacked/blasted/charred it apart already? :) Is there no spatter effect? The items would be *covered* with acid. You should have acid resist, just to touch anything - or at least gloves that are not damaged by acid. ...

I think it could be good for ToME too, traits would be like boolean skills, you have them or you dont. They would be bought with skill points too and could have stats and skill requirements to be bought. Have a Monastery with Grandaddy monk that teaches skill or gives them to you based on skill adv...
