Re: What do people think of Frantic Summoning?
As a summoner, I find myself mashing the . key a lot when my summons aren't dying quickly. Summoners don't have a lot to do with their turns to begin with. Frantic Summoning didn't seem worth the TALENT POINTS, much less the cost.

Re: Question for learning to make a module.
How difficult is it, in T-Engine, to reference areas other than those the player is in? Could you easily have, say, a mob moving intelligently through terrain on a map that isn't in play? I note that, in ToME, the player's absence makes everything freeze... probably for memory reasons?

Re: Time Bandits: A Third Chronomancy Class.
If anything, the chronomancy classes prove that there's a niche crowd who would be ALL ABOUT a time-travel roguelike.

Re: Time Bandits: A Third Chronomancy Class.
Eronarn: That's also a really awesome interpretation of the concept! I think I actually like your mechanics a little better in many cases, too. I feel like the class should have temporal warden hunting parties who show up more and more often on the overworld map, actually, in any case. For Paradox M...

Re: New module: Run from the Shadow
My initial impressions, having made it no further than the fourth floor: First and foremost, I really love the minimalist nature, the various descriptions, and the general theme of the game. It's very atmospheric, and when I realized I was killing judgmental rats I became very excited. It's funny ho...

Re: Time Bandits: A Third Chronomancy Class.
I didn't even think about the idea in relation to the Heart of the Sandworm Queen. Don't eat too many Sandworm Queen Hearts; you'll get fat! For the few instances like that where there's a truly exploitable reward, maybe make it so that consuming 3 or more sandworm hearts on the same character makes...

I'm downloading the module and testing it out. Did you also make Gruesome? I love Gruesome!

Re: Time Bandits: A Third Chronomancy Class.
I actually considered that exact effect for Borrow Energy, but decided that (A) the more simple abilities, the better, with the other temporal nonsense happening and (B) if you're stealing your own stuff from somewhere along the timeline, it's probably just as simple to take them from a point where ...

Re: Boss music!
I like http://freeplaymusic.com/, personally. Butterfly Tea is a band that almost exclusively produces royalty-free fantasy-themed music, and they're on Jamendo. I'm going to take DarkGod's comment as license to start looking for music that fits ToME's main themes and styles and which also matches c...

Re: Adding height to TOME
This seems like it would be an extensive change to the game-- changing line of sight, map generation, talent balance, et cetera. Might I suggest kicking the idea over to an ambitious non-ToME T4 module to begin with? One with more focus on mobility in and out of combat? A proof of concept, first, th...

Time Bandits: A Third Chronomancy Class.
It's no secret that the Chronomancer classes were early favorites of mine. The moment when I realized my future self had come back in time to kill me was the moment I was definitely hooked on Tales of Maj'Eyal, and one of my first truly successful characters was a Paradox Mage. The Chronomancy roste...

(b33) Epoch broke game.
Was fighting Epoch as a Temporal Warden. When told to go "Meet the Master," just before getting shunted to the mini-level, I got a bug message, but since I seemed to still be playing I continued on. After defeating Epoch and exiting the mini-level where he lived, the game was frozen and th...

Re: Favorite Race
I voted ghouls because I love the flavor and find their crippling disadvantages interesting to build characters around. Which is to say, I almost always play ghouls as super durable casters rather than as warriors. Because they can't heal themselves anyway.

Re: ghouls revisited
I find the undead races fascinating because, in folklore and the modern fantasy mythos, undead are supposed to be sturdier than living humans. But thanks to the lack of infusions, they're actually quite a bit more fragile, more HP or not. That might change as Taints are integrated into the game, so ...

Re: Vault contest!
I know that this is an extremely simple design, but I also feel that the present lack of random pentagrams sealing demons away beneath the earth is detracting from my play experience. This should probably only occur underground, although it would be amusing to come across a little clearing with a bl...
