12 easy steps

I used to think I was a total ToME junkie; I played an absurd amount every day, and I could churn out a winning character in two, maybe three days if I put my mind to it. Now I pretty much don't play the game anymore. I might run a character or two when ToME 3 comes out, but I'm otherwise off the wa...

I would have to say http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=1799 Alberich for the flexibility, though some other characters of mine have had greater killing power. Really the only question with the mage / sorcerer debate is whether you'd like more spells that are more powerful, or more hit points....

....

I have pushed for renovation of the Air school in the past, claiming that it granted a lot of powers that everyone just gained from their equipment anyway. I think that Air needs some sort of direct damage or other unconditionally beneficial spell to be worth putting skill points into. Tach's spell ...

There's no "trick" for winning the game. I don't even think that there's a golden rule to live by. It's just a combination of strategy, experience, and luck. :o Just learn from your mistakes. Rethink, recharge, return stronger than before (my often misquoted motto). To that I would just ad...

Despite my loudmouthed jabbering on the forum and elsewhere, I really don't have much interest in being nominated The Best ToME Player, because I feel that that title's pretty subjective. Unlike other games where you just try to score a lot of points or kill a lot of enemies, there are so many thing...

I have challenged the imposter, but he / she / it has not come forth.

Seems like someone talks the talk, but can't walk the walk.

Mass summoning on the monsters' part isn't something that I have any trouble with. There are ways to prevent or reduce these summonings, and if they catch you off guard you can almost always just teleport away, rethink your strategy, and return. I don't think that monster summong needs any adjustmen...

As the only person on the oook ladder who's won with a Dark-Priest (I think. haven't checked it in a while), I think that the class is difficult but not excessively so. Yes, the Dark-Priest gets shafted in terms of most normal magic. But he's better at Necromancy than all but the Necromancer class, ...

I find that it helps to orient a character toward survival in the Void from the very beginning of the game. Knowing all of your possible abilities/attributes before you go is very helpful. I think that the Void is less impossible than many might think it is, but going in there without the essentials...

Or, to quote my own Angband motto: "rethink, rebuild, return stronger than before." This should be carved on the ToME tombstone right below "Killed by a foo on dungeon level bar." Edit: Just noticed that Neil is now a full-fledged Vala. Guess we'll have to put another alta...

My official stance is that the sorcerer is easier for those learning the magic system, while those who know the magic system can create a better Mage. The reason for this is that I find myself using only about half of the Sorcerer spells frequently at high levels, and that little extra flexibility i...

Now that I remember it, you're right. And they didn't make it clear that Eowyn didn't die (there was only one shot of her after her battle with the Witch-King).

Quite an oversight. And I thought Theoden was one of the best executed characters in the latter two movies...
